Arrival Story:
Leo and his sister Rascal were left at a shelter at the age of 11 where they were running short on time. Homeward Trails Animal Rescue was able to place them together in a loving foster home, but soon Leo began to get very sick. As a volunteer for the organization I got the panicked email when the local vet recommended putting him down because of his kidney stones and liver disease. I suggested that we get a second opinion with a specialist and my fiance and I took Leo out to see them. Through the course of the visit, it became very clear that his medical bills would be far more than the rescue society could afford and that his continued care would be more than the overwhelmed foster system could handle. Leo was snuggled up in my lap and purring, so we took one look at the little guy with tears in our eyes and suddenly had two new kitties and a 5 digit vet bill! After surgery, 3 blood transfusion and 2 weeks in ICU, the little guy is reunited with Rascal in his new home and is so happy to be back in my lap!

Bio:
Leo is doing very well, although is still refusing to eat his special kidney food. He thinks that anything other than Fancy Feast is utterly disgusting and looks up at me or his daddy with his big yellow eyes and meows and meows until he gets what he wants! He is eating very well and gaining weight, so we really can't complain!
