Favorite Nap Spot: On the back of the sofa

Favorite Food: Pounce snacks, and I like the Hill's Science Diet Senior Indoor food at my new house.

Arrival Story: Mac joined our family on August 17, 2007, at the age of 16. His family since he was a kitten had posted an email on the Story County freecycle group looking for advice on how to place him; he needed a new home because of allergies (human, not his).

Bio: Because Mac's new brother Victor is such a thug, Mac lived in the guest room for about the first 18 months in his new home. The transition was delayed by the illness and passing of Toby, but during that time, I always spent a few hours sleeping in the guest room with Mac every night. Eventually I was able to integrate Mac into the cat family and now he has the run of the house, and after Alice passed away, Mac has actually become the alpha cat! Poor Victor, put in his place by Mac, nearly 4 times his age!

Forums Motto: Changed families as a senior cat

Update: Thank you to all who purred for Macaroni. My vet and I helped him to go to the rainbow bridge on Monday, August 8, at about 8:40 am, only 2.5 weeks shy of his 20th birthday. While I don't think he was suffering terribly, he was very thin and frail, his mobility was declining drastically, and he was losing bladder control. He continued to eat and drink until the very end - in fact, on the way to the vet, I noticed that his chin was wet. I was happy he was around for the weekend, as we spent quite a bit of time together. He enjoyed sitting halfway across my lap and eating whatever I was eating, usually a little cheese or meat. I even took him out on the back deck so he got a little sunshine while I planted some petunias. Perhaps the saddest thing was that when I came home from the vet, Lily was already looking for him in the corner of the office where his bed was.
