Arrival Story:
When I first met Willie, I had just begun working at the shelter. He was in a bottom cage close to the floor, and as I was walking by, he stuck those large beautiful polydactyl feet right out the bars of the cage. I thought he was so cute. Sometime later, Willie would have health issues, and would come to stay in an isolation room at the shelter. At the same time, my beloved "Gem" who eventually died of cancer was staying in that room. I had been bringing Gem back and forth to work with me so I could tend to his needs during the day while I was working. Willie was in a cage right above the one I was keeping Gem in. Willie used to look so sad when I would cry outside of Gem's cage. Sometimes I would take Willie out of his cage and just let him sit in my lap while I cried. He was a great comfort to me. A few months after Gem died, I adopted Willie.
