My Red String of Death!

Favorite Nap Spot:
I love to nap on my kitty tree, in sun puddles, on Mama's bed, and sometimes under Mama's bed

Favorite Food:
I looooooove chicken! I'm usually very polite, but if Mama brings home chicken, I cry and forget my manners till she gives me some.

I write an advice column called Paws and Effect with my sister Siouxsie and my brother Thomas.

Arrival Story:
Several years ago, Mama asked for a black cat to come to her. Having heard that request, my kittymama, a pregnant stray, came to the house of one of Mama's friends. My brothers and sisters and I were born at this friend's house. When I was old enough, Mama adopted Siouxsie and she got not just one black cat, but two!

I left Mama's home on August 15, 2006 (at least, that's what her mind says the human date was; to me it was just another warm summer day) for an explore, and because I was called to go north to the Big Gully. As I was roaming around in the Big Gully, a bunch of coyotes came upon me and ... well ... let's just say that I'm no longer in my body. My spirit still lingers around Mama's home on the farm, and my kitty siblings can see me. I'm teaching Mama how to hear me now. I'm sad that I had to leave when I did, because I love Mama so very much and I miss her cuddles as much as she misses mine. *sniffle* But the great thing about being a spirit cat is I can go anywhere I want--and I can even type on Catster!

Oh, Sinead, I'll never forget you. It's been almost two years now and I still miss your purrs and love. I wish you hadn't had to cross the Bridge in the way you did. I'd hoped we could share the last minutes of your life together. My sweet little soul mate, my dreaming companion, my life-saving girl. I love you always, and I know we'll be reunited someday. Love always and for eternity--Mama

My Tail of Devotion for Sinead O'Kitty

Dear Sinead,

I'll never forget the day I first met you. You came bounding out of your carrier with a meow 10 times bigger than your 6-week-old self and immediately ensconced yourself in my lap, purring like crazy. You looked up at me with your huge eyes and I was hooked.

I love you more than I ever imagined was possible. You've opened my heart, soothed my pain, purred away my tears, and more than once, literally saved my life. As I struggled with severe depression, not knowing whether I wanted to live or die, your loving glance and your constant vigils gave me a reason to keep on.

Your purrs, your conversational chattiness, the fun you have playing with your Red String of Death, watching you as you enjoy the thrill of the hunt (whether for a toy, a bug, or a real rodent), your "cave kitty" game, and the beautiful soul I see in your huge, golden eyes. ....

You're my inspiration and my healing, my Sweet Pea, and a living example of how to live in the present.

How many ways do I love you? I love you as many ways as you have furs on your body!

Kisses and tummy-rubs,

This is a special Tail of Devotion

Please sponsor us as we blog to raise funds for Noah's Wish, an organization dedicated to disaster relief efforts for animals. We'll answer your cat health- or behavior-related questions every half hour. If you want us to post photos, we can do that too. Join us on July 29-30 and get in on the fun--and help the animals, too.
