Arrival Story:
Jack was originally the ward of my girlfriends son who had named him "Kitty" (imagine that). Michael (an alias for the purposes of this story) got him from his aunt who had Jack and his litter mates brought to her front door by the MaMa cat to save her kittens from being bitten to death by fire ants. Somehow the entire litter was on top of a fire ant mound. After the kittens had been nursed back to a point where they could be given to loving, caring homes Michael took Jack/Kitty to live with him. I first met Jack at this time and knew the poor baby was doomed as Michael was not a very responsible person. Jack/Kitty was left to his own devices (including having to drink his water out the commode) and had very little human contact in a day as his human was gone most of the time. I had just lost one of my two sister cats to cancer (McGee) and her sister (Bobbie) was not adjusting to the loss very well so I didn't entertain any thoughts of introducing a new cat into the house or I would have taken him then to prevent what next happened to my poor Jack. Left with no food and no companionship, and in an atmosphere that harbored cat-haters (it hurts to even write those words) Jack was tortured to an extent I am unable to hear about even now. I know he lost one eye, his jaw was broken, which causes him to project an "Elvis" smile (curled lip) sometimes, and other horrific things were done to him. Michael's mother found Jack in a field where he had been left to die, and took him to the hospital. The vet told her he wouldn't live and encouraged her to "put him to sleep." She couldn't/wouldn't make that decision and so the vet said "Fine, I'll neuter him while I'm removing his eye, etc. because I don't believe he'll survive that much surgery and then you won't have made the decision, God will." Obviously, God had plans for Jack because he survived! By the time Jack was released from the hospital my other cat, Bobbie, had developed cancer and was in the final stages. I agreed to provide a foster home for Jack TEMPORARILY because of how sick Bobbie was. I spent weeks trying to find a home for him but nobody wanted a one-eyed, broken jawed cat......except me! That's probably because it was meant for me to be Jack's companion as my dear little Bobbie died shortly after Jack adopted me. I tell Jack at least once in every day "Nobody will EVER hurt you again." He looks at me with his one eye, his crooked jaw and his Elvis smile and says "meow, meow, meow," which means "I know that."

Bio:
Jack is the most confident, self-centered cat I've ever known. I am amazed every day that he allows me or any other person to come near him for all he has suffered. Every morning while I get ready for work, he walks on the bathroom counter, looks in the mirror and I know he's saying to himself "Damn, I'm handsome." I've had several cats over the years and I've loved each and every one of them but Jack is "someone" special. While I searched high and low to find him a home when he first came to me, with no success (thankfully), there hasn't been a person since who has met him who hasn't asked if I would consider letting them adopt him.... as if I'd EVER let him go. In January of 2009 my beloved, beautiful, wonderful Jack succumbed to his diabetes, which he contracted in 2008, and passed over the Rainbow Bridge. I am beyond heartbroken and cry for him every day. I know all of his furr-buddies will say a prayer for him.

I'm back in Mississippi (ugh). Mom and the boyfriend took me and Bart home to Texas for a week. Another 5 hour drive there and 5 hours back...these out of state jobs are pooping me out. I'd rather be home in Texas because, after all, I am a long, tall Texan and Texas is where I belong. Oh well, what ever puts dental treats and Iams on the table, I guess. I understand we'll be heading home for a stretch in another 2 months...can't wait.

Spent my first day back watching the neighborhood goings-on and catching up on my ZZZZZZZZZ's. Will write more later, after I've straightened out the neighborhood. You know, when the Cat's away..................
