Arrival Story:
I've had many cats, and the death of our beloved family cat Lucky made me miss having one around. My husband (who has never liked or had a cat) and I went to our local SPCA to adopt. We wanted a black cat specifically since most our clothes and furniture are black. They had many black cats, but my husband saw one asleep in a ball despite the noise and confusion and asked to see her. She woke up when we opened the cage and commenced meowing loudly. She purred when my husband picked her up, shattering his heart with her extreme kitten cuteness. I went to look at the other cats, since I wanted an older one (she was 2 1/2 months), but she would not stop meowing at the top of her lungs, even when we put her back in the cage. "She's too young," I said. "We can mold her," he said. "Don't make me regret this," I said, pulling her file from the clip. I haven't.

Bio:
Margo is named after Margo Timmins, the singer for the Cowboy Junkies. She's called Monkey-Bunny for a reason. She climbs everywhere and is a real food stealer. She steals everything that's not pinned down and stuffs it under the couch. She is known for unscrewing bottle caps from bottles with her teeth and making off with them. The Bunny part is when she waits patiently for us to go to bed or get off the computers, so we can have a snuggle. We encouraged our friends to visit and pick her up a lot when we first got her, so she is friendly with strangers. She is the only cat I ever knew who loves a belly-rub more than any dog. She was born with white whiskers, which she gradually lost over a couple of weeks at 6 months, to be replaced with black ones. She has white toes - her back feet were white when we got her but the white is gradually disappearing. I say she is slowly growing more and more evil. UPDATE: Adulthood has brought Margo a bit more dignity, but only a bit. She's doubled in weight but can still jump pretty damn high. She's also getting a bit aggressive about getting out the door in warm weather, so now we are on high alert when we open the doors. She now has a lil sister, Tabitha, whom she loves to abuse by delivering the "killing bite" to her neck at all hours of the day and night. She also thinks Tabs makes a great leapfrog partner, whether Tabs wants to play or not.

Margo loves nachos and potato chips, so one must be careful when eating these things in her presence. She will sneak up on you and either bat your hand to make you drop it, or bite the chip to break it off. She even takes one side of your chip in both paws and breaks it, then scampers away with "her" piece.

Once I gave her an entire chip of her own to eat. She had chip fragments spread in a three-foot radius around herself, and she purred for hours.

Margo's developed a new way of asking for things: The Ask-Meow. It's different from all her other noises in that it's a high-pitched broken sound. She's not allowed to stay in the laundry room by herself, but she likes to roll on the cement floor, so when we say "out" she asks to stay with this meow.

She also has a food meow and a play-request meow.

Found her in my closed sock drawer the other day, snoozing until I opened it, at which time she fixed me with a "Do you mind?" look. I wondered how she got in there, until I remembered closing the middle drawer that was hanging open a crack earlier. It seems Margo can crawl in behind the open drawer and drop down into the bottom, which is filled with soft socks. Good thing we wear a lot of black ones.
