Arrival Story: I've recently taken in a rescued kitten who is an absolute doll and looking for a new home! She is at least 8 weeks old, pastel tortoise shell short hair with a poofy tail, VERY sociable and L-O-V-E-S to be cuddled and rubbed!
She came from a very sad situation (a cat hoarder) and when I asked the shelter for help, they said that all they would do is euthanize her, even though I offered to foster (on offer they rarely turn down but due to the recent dog fighting raid, they have absolutely no room. The story can be read here: http://tallahassee.com/app

070731/NEWS01/707310329). So to save her life, I took her to animal aid knowing I had a hefty bill to look forward to, but dang it, she's worth it!
She is FLV/FIV negative, has been treated for intestinal parasites, has been bathed and de-fleaed and has received her first FVRCCP vaccination. The only thing I can't offer her is a new home! The latest she will be ready for her new home is in 6 weeks, but if she is older than 8 weeks she could go to her new home sooner. By then she will have gone through her FLV/FVRCCP vaccine series, will have received her rabies vaccine and will be spayed. I am asking for a $75 adoption fee to help cover a small portion of her vet bills (this is the same adoption fee the shelter charges). Spencer and I will cover the rest of her vet bills and we'll consider it a donation to a good cause :) (Even if I have to sell my beloved iPod to pay for it...I'm a so an animal person...).
If you or anyone you know has room in their heart and home for this sweet li'l pum'kin, please call me (212-1013). I am happy to help the perspective parents in anyway I can. My home is ALWAYS open to babies I have adopted out free of charge so an added perk is that you'll always have a free cat sitter ;) If you can't help this li'l girl by giving her a forever loving home, any monetary donation to cover her vet bills would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!! Even a dollar goes a long way when it comes to helping animals! Also, donated items that can be auctioned off on eBay (i.e. school books you don't need anymore!) are also a huge help!!
So here's the deal with her back story. I've been trying to help out this family down the street who has 13 cats - 3 moms and 10 kittens - since I've moved in to my new house. This family hasn't taken any of the kittens to the vet (including the three 2-week-olds), not one is spayed/neutered, they all live outside (which is why 4 have already been killed by cars) and this family has even admitted that they can't afford to feed them (they just get bread and scraps). I have offered to take them all to the vet, have them taken care of, adopted out, and I've even offered to buy them food and cat shelters - I know how it can get when you are low on money and are just trying to do the right thing. All of my help has been turned down, on repeated occasions. But last night, at 11 o'clock, one of the kids comes by with one of the kittens and tells me "Here. We don't want this one anymore. She's too skinny and we think she's sick." They also brought me their 8 month old black pit mix who they didn't want either because she "got too big" (turns out they adopted her from the shelter as a puppy. Typical shelter puppy story: adopted by a family that only wants her because she's cute and returns her later when she's no longer puppy-cute, is misbehaved and unadoptable...) So, of course, I take them both in and I offered to take even more kittens but they said they'd want all of them back, except the one I have now. It turns out that the kitten's only problem is that she was malnourished (which tends to happen when you refuse food donations to help you feed your 13 cats) and has anemia because of her malnourishment (the fleas were sucking out all the nutrients she was absorbing). So she's on an iron supplement to get her iron levels back up, is flea-free, eating like a garbage disposal and will be right as rain in a few days! Now she just needs to find her new loving mom or dad!!
