Well my friends it has been awhile. We just removed several of Moki's older photographs and videos and replaced many of them with newer images and videos. As for Moki, he is currently receiving medical treatments by both a small animal physical rehabilitation specialist and animal acupuncturist. He is doing great and continues to fight the good fight...

Merry Christmoussey! We wish you all the most joyous of holiday seasons and a wonderful new year!

To print a copy of the Christmoussey photograph created just for you, right click on the photograph and hit save. From there you can print out Moki's Christmoussey picture if you'd like.

As for Moki, he is currently trying to make a recovery from the latest round of illness. He is starting to eat and drink small portions of food and cat milk again, while momma bean continues to provide him sub-q-fluids, Tamiflu and on going supportive care. He is both playful and alert and to this day remains as happy and upbeat as ever...

For all of our Catster friends, we wanted to provide you with an update on Moki. For those of you who are unaware, Moki has been battling many additional health problems these past few months. Over the past few days things have gotten progressively worse to the point we where not sure Moki would pull through this. (You can read all about it on his blog www.savemoki.blogspot.com) Moki has had an insane amount of blood in his urine and on top of that has been battling a URI. He stopped eating and drinking for awhile, and I feared the end was near...Fortunately we have seen a marked improvment in Moki since last night. He is now eating on his own again, (still not drinking much, but getting sub-q-fluids,) the blood in his urine is starting to improve, although be it he is still congested. We are not out of the woods yet, but I am keeping my fingers crossed that Moki will pull through...In the mean time we ask that all his friends please purr and pray for his complete recovery!

A Cart For Bella...

The rescue group where momma bean has volunteered in the past, recently put a lady by the name of Gail in touch with us, because of our particular knowledge of handling special needs cats. Gail was going out of town for the holidays and desperately needed to find someone to watch one of her special needs rescues for the two weeks while she was away. We agreed to take the kitty, who's name is Bella, and care for her while Gail was away.

Now we would like to share with you Bella's story and how her special needs came to be... Bella was found severally injured, in a Target parking lot. It appears as though she may have been run over...Bella has no use of her back legs and is incontinent. Despite her injuries however, Bella moves very quickly, and remains a very sweet little girl. When we pet her, she just purrs and purrs...

Unfortunately, because Bella cannot use her back legs, she has no choice but to drag them on the ground alond side her. The result of Bella dragging her legs causes many sores on her legs from the constant rubbing on the ground. Her anus is also very sore and swollen from constently being rubbed on the ground. The only way to prevent the sores/swelling, would be to stop the dragging, and in order to do that Bella would need a special cart/wheelchair.

It is our hope that we can raise enough in donations on Moki's blog to get Bella that special cart she needs. For Bella it would indeed be a Christmas miracle! Having a cart to help her get around would furever change this little girls life. She would be furever grateful!

To see Bella for yourself, please visit our entry about Bella, on Moki's blog A Cart For Bella We have set up a donation button on Moki's blog, just for Bella for any of you who would like to help in providing this special one, a very special Christmas miracle!

Latest Finding From the Neurologist and Orthopedic- Surgeon...

UC Davis remains completely baffled by Moki's condition. Their team of doctors and specialist, simply have never seen anything quite like Moki before, and they cannot figure this thing out. Fortunately, they are not giving up hope, they just know when to admit, they need help...

Moki's neurological case is being refered to a specialist amougst specialists in Missouri. This particular doctor specializes in degenerative disease research. The doctor has agree to take on Moki's case and see if he/she can make head or tails of it.

As for Moki's orthopedic problem, UC Davis has also never seen anything like it. The problem with Moki's thoracic inlet leaves UC Davis charting unknown waters...The orthopedic surgeon at UC Davis is thus consultating with some human orthopedic surgeons at the Shriners Children's Hospital to see if they have ever encountered anything like this in children before, and if so, what can be done about it...

In the mean time both specialist agree that we should continue Moki's physical therapy, (above and beyond the orginal 10 sessions that where recommended.) Thus our fundraising efforts will continue to help cover the ongoing physical therapy cost, and the future cost of what lies ahead. (If you would like to help us cover the ongoing costs of Moki's treatments, please visit Moki's blog at www.savemoki.blogspot.com and check out our left hand side bar for the latest information on raffles/auctions being held to benefit Moki...)

Full details about the conversation which took place between the neurologist and myself can be found on Moki's blog in addition to fundrasing activities which are featured on the left hand side bar of Moki's blog...

Moki's Brain - MRI Image Shown Above

August 8th 2008 4:05 pm

To help people better understand Moki's condition, we have put up one of his MRI images (the complete set of images can be viewed on his blog, www.savemoki.blogspot.com) We have labeled this particular image, to make it easier to follow the statment made by Moki's neurologist on his discharge sheet. The arrow pointing to the large white area in the image is Moki's cerebellum. The arrow pointing to the black area around the cerebellum, is the fluid Moki's neurologist is referring to. Now with that said, here is what Moki's neurologist said about the two:

"The MRI showed a slightly decreased cerebellar size...There is also some slight decrease in some of the cortex, and dilation of the fluid filled spaces surrounding Moki's brain."

What does it all mean, we still don't know! Hopefully we will have a slightly better answer for you next week when Moki's neurologist returns from his conference and is able to consult with other specialists.

Back to square one...

So Moki definately does not have cerebeller hypoplasia, what he does have still remains a mystery...you can read more about our last conversation with the neurologist by visiting the following web address to read the posting we did on Moki's blog...

http://savemoki.blogspot.com/2008/07/back-to-squa re-oneor-maybe-its-square.html

Now with that said, I have added to Moki's Catster page pictures of Moki's x-rays. If you look closely you can see in the later x-ray, that Moki's thoracic inlet is begining to curve upward towards his spine. The movement of Moki's thoracic inlet may actually be what is causing his cough, at this time we are still uncertain. Moki's neurologist is currently out of town attending a conference, but will be back next week. Upon his return his is suppose to be calling us to discuss Moki's neurological condition further. He will also be referring Moki to an orthopedic surgeon at UC Davis, who can help treat the current thoracic inlet problem. Moki's neurologist wanted to speak with the orthopedic surgeon prior to calling us about getting Moki involved in some special thing UC Davis has going on with the Shriners Organization (best known for the Shriners Children Hospitals.) I am not sure what this is all about yet, but will let you know more just as soon as we find out.

In the mean time additional fundraising is underway on Moki's blog (www.savemoki.blogspot.com) to help cover Moki's future medical costs. The money which is currently being raised will be used to pay for whatever orthopedic treatments are need for Moki. Thank you so much to everyone who has helped us get this far!
