Arrival Story:
After adopting my first cat, I felt ready to adopt a second, hoping that there wouldn't be any problems introducing a new kitty to the family. I went to the shelter and had a hard time picking out a cat that seemed like a good fit. I must have walked around the cage-room a million times. Finally I saw this calico cat in an upper-level cage who was lying down, looking very sleepy. She might have just woken up. I had always liked calicos, although I didn't know about their reputation for psycho-kitty-ness at the time. I asked the shelter assistant to let me see the calico, and when I first held the kitty (her shelter name was "Callie"), she kind of struggled to get away. I tried holding her tightly, and that made her relax and start purring. She let me hold her for a while, and I felt as though she might be happy with me. I thought a bit longer, and then decided to adopt her. After waiting an hour or so and meeting with the adoption-interviewer guy (a standard thing to make sure you're going to be a good "parent"), they brought "Callie" out to me in a cardboard carrier. I was so excited, and anxious to get home. I later chose the name "Miko" for her, my sister's suggestion... Introducing Miko to my first cat and getting her settled was tricky, and my first cat was NOT happy. But it has now been several years and things are much better--especially now that my husband and I are in a bigger place.

Mostly white calico with brown (red/orange) and black patches; Beautiful ringed tail; Golden eyes;

Laser pointer fun

Do you know what the ultimate, super-fun toy is? A laser pointer! Oh, I just go crazy when I see that little red dot moving all over the floor and the walls. I must chase it and try to grab it! For some reason, though, I can never catch it--it's too fast for me, I guess! I have lightning-quick paws, so I really don't understand it at all. But I don't care because it's SO MUCH CRAZY FUN!!! I get so excited chasing that dot, I get all out of breath! Phew!

As a matter of fact, I'm going to take a nap right now so that I'll be well-rested for when Mom gets out the laser-pointer. Oh yeah!!!!

I love laps. I adore being in laps. I think I want to be in a lap almost all the time. Can I be in your lap, o reader of my diary? I'll try not to drool on you. I just want to stretch out and take a nice long nap in your nice warm lap. My people are at work, so I don't have anyone's nap to lie on. There's just this other cat, here, who doesn't want me coming near her (fine with me! She doesn't have a true lap, anyway.). Guess I'll just have to wait till the folks get home tonight. zzzzzzzzzz...
