My family was forced to flee advance of Hurricane Ike. Winkie began acting as if she had gotten into something. We smelled her paws and thought we smelt detergent. We washed her paws throughly and didn't think much more of it because we were so preoccupied getting everything together to leave before the storm. I noticed that day, that she didn't eat. By the next day, when we arrived at a pet shelter in College Station, Tx, she was still not eating. I felt like something was terribly wrong and immediately took her to our vet. But nothing could be done. Her liver had failed and there seemed to be neurological symptoms as well. Winkie died today, very suddenly, very unexpectantly. Her loss has left a hole in my heart. I never expected such a young kitten would get so sick so fast. And having this happen on top of the Ike disaster, it may take more time than normal to get on with life. Forgive me, but I'm still in shock.
Since March of 07 I was in mourning over the loss of my beloved "Blackie." I was crying even a few days before a higher power decided I had gone long enough without a black cat. And since I'd lost 3 cats in the past year, this higher power decided I should get 3 cats, all at once, all black. Gosh, is God good! I found 3 little kittens under my car. They were in perfect health except they hadn't been fed properly. Winkie is the kitten with the longest fur and she is a little darling with huge furry paws and a tail that arches over her back when she runs to greet you.I sometimes think she looks like a Meerkat withher tail up like that. She is such a sweetie and I thank God for her. She, her brother Inkie and sister, Nod have reawakened the household and brought us back to our charmed number of 18 cats. We love them all.
