Arrival Story: I was called by a realtor in Atlanta one day desperate for help with a cat she'd found abandoned in a house she had listed for sale. She'd called every rescue in the area, but none would help. She told me the cat was in sad shape, and she had no idea how long he'd been alone in the house. I wasn't about to turn her down, so I grabbed a carrier and headed down to Atlanta right then.
I didn't know what to expect, but when I saw Max I cried. He barely weighed 4 pounds. My vet's best guess was that he was 10 years old or more, a purebred Himalayan. He should have weighed at least 10 pounds, he was so emaciated that the vet suggested euthanasia right away. But Max had other ideas, he purrred a weak little purrr and rubbed his head against me letting me know he wasn't ready so I took him home and started working with him. He had to learn how to eat again, he'd gone without food so long that he didn't want to eat or drink. So we slowly learned how to eat again. I had to cook chicken and rice for him at the start, then we moved on to bland cat food mixed with chicken.
Over the next couple of months Max went from his pitiful 4 pounds to a much better 8 pounds, but his health never was very good. Starving and going without water took a toll on his kidneys. He started having other health issues, then his kidneys started giving out.
Max was with me for 10 months before he let me know it was his time. He was the sweetest most loving little kitty. I was amazed that he could love me and Pete so much even after he had been abandoned and locked in an empty house to die.
When Max crossed over to the bridge he took most of my heart with him...

Bio: A soon as Max got some of his strength he would go out to the garden with me. He played in the water barrel, and climbed on the old tree stump to watch me work. He was my shadowed me everywhere I went. He was like a little angel watching over me.
