Arrival Story:
BlackBerry wandered up to our door a couple years ago. He was starving and very ragged from living on his own for too long. We started feeding him in June '05 and he stuck around. He was very shy of coming too close to us, but was happy for the food and when it got colder we got him a little igloo and a space heater. By January '06 we were able to capture him to get him to the Vet. He hadn't been neutered yet! When we brought him home from that we kept him in his own room in the basement (very sunny, warm in winter, cool in summer), all the food he wants, pets and brushings and clean litter - he's never left, go figure! Unfortunately he's FIV positive so he doesn't get to mix in the rest of the household, but he has a forever home now. We don't know how old he is but he's also gone blind in the last few months and he did have a rough life before he met us.
Sadly on January 14, 2008, poor old Blackberry suffered convulsions and though we rushed him to the vet we determined our best service to him would be to escort him to the Rainbow Bridge. He had FIV, high blood pressure, was blind and probably had a brain tumor. He was a good old boy and we know he's chasing butterflies in the sunshine now.
