Rose has been with the building since she was a kitten, in 1991. She was loved by everyone here, and was an excellent hunter and friend to all (except dogs and other cats). At 17, Rose was definitely enjoying her golden years, receiving lots of love and affection from everyone who met her.
For the last year, she had a few bouts of vomiting and her kidneys were not 100%, but she was in great shape for a kitty her age. In the last couple of weeks her appetite decreased and she lost a little weight, but she was more active than she had been in years and everyone was so happy to see revisiting her old haunts.
On Monday, Rose was in a spot she didn't normally hang out in, and was clearly breathing heavily. In light of her recent vomiting and lesser appetite (and age), we took her immediately to the vet. Poor Rose was quickly diagnosed with kidney and heart disease, she was anemic and had fluid in her chest and belly. A later ultrasound revealed lymphoma. She hid her illness from us very well, and in spite of heroic efforts from her kind and loving veterinarian, she quickly declined. We were able to get to the hospital on Tuesday in time to say goodbye to her, and she left for the rainbow bridge while being petted and loved by her friends.
I cannot begin to tell you all how much this wonderful, beautiful kitty has meant to all of us. She was our friend, our pet, our companion, our watchcat, our exterminator, and most loyal employee. She is truly missed by all of us.
I want to thank everyone for their prayers, purrs, kind words, thoughts, rosettes, special gifts, and stars. To know that Rose touched so many lives is reassuring. We know that she will never be forgotten.
