Arrival Story: Sometime before my thirteenth birthday, my parents had been at a pet store and saw a litter of adorable grey tabby kittens. One in particular caught my dad's eye. After giving it some thought, my parents felt it would be nice if I got a cat for my upcoming birthday. So, under the false pretense of checking out a yard sale, they drove me out to our local animal shelter. Now that I think back, I would have loved to be able to adopt one of the shelter cats, but I was young, emotional and close to tears. I couldn't just choose one when so many of them needed homes. Thus, they rushed me out of there quickly and took me to the pet store they had visited a few days prior. And there she was! It was instant. All the others were sleeping, and she was pouncing about them, bopping them on their cute little kitten heads. My parents were acting strangely, constantly asking me if I was sure and assuring me I could choose whichever kitten I wanted. But I knew she was the one, and said so. It wasn't until I brought her home that I understood my parents' strange behaviour. The beautiful girl I chose was the very same my dad had taken a liking to days earlier. Simply meant to be!

Bio: After 9 short years with my girl, she was diagnosed with intestinal cancer. Though we were ready to exhaust all options, no matter how costly, to keep her with us, the cancer developed rapidly. Surgery would be too complicated, due to the concentration of blood vessels in the area. We doubted she would have the strength to recover surgery even if the tumour was successfully removed. So we opted for palliative care. I spent two more weeks devoted to her, delaying university exams and essays. Finally, on Dec. 14 2005, I knew it was time to let her go. I miss her incredibly.
