Arrival Story:
Poor Taka was in the Brazos County Animal shelter dying from a tapeworm that had left her at 4.5 lbs when I met her. We loved each other instantly and she has been a wonderful, happy cat ever since.

Taka came to my house as a friend for Ling. After a brief period of scowling at each other they became good friends. Now they spend all of their time licking each others' heads and watching birds from my second-story window. Taka is the most loving and cuddly cat I have ever met. She loves to sit on my lap and get her chin scratched.

After a very long battle with Feline Leukemia, Taka died Monday night at about midnight. She had gotten ill a week before and had seemed to be doing better, but Monday things took a turn for the worse. She died at home, and thankfully we know we did all we could for her.

Taka was the sweetest cat I've ever met, and everyone she ever met loved her immediately. She could turn a cat hater into a cat lover in the space of an hour. She never met a person she didn't like, and I don't think anyone who met her found it possible to dislike her either. She was a great hunter, a fantastic snuggler, and an excellent lap warmer. She was lovely to have in our lives, and we'll all miss her very dearly.

We love you, Takamine. We thank you for all the joy you gave us.

Outlook Not Good

I just wanted to give you an update on my health. I had my semi-yearly visit with the vet last month and everything looked pretty good, but things have taken a turn for the worse since then.

I have lost a lot of weight. Two years ago, when I was diagnosed with FeLV, I weighed 12 pounds. Now I weigh less than 9. My fur is dingy, and there are clumps of litter around my bottom. I throw up a lot, even when there is nothing in my stomach.

I know that these aren't good signs, but there are positive things. I'm still very active. I play a lot, and I give very good snuggles. I eat well, especially treats. I get a good amount of sleep.

I'm still taking the interferon, and antibiotics when infections crop up (and they do, a lot). I finally got to stop taking amitryptilene, because I stopped going outside the litter box. My vet is a very good doctor, and he takes care of me.

I hope that I can stay as well as I am now for a long time. Maybe better. But I'll be happy to have every moment I get.

Vet Visit

Again, it's been a long time since my last journal update, but I thought I should clue you in on recent events.

I just had a checkup at the vet yesterday. I go every 6 months because I have FeLV. Last year I had a very, very rough time. I had bladder problems which caused me a lot of pain and made me pee all over the house.

It took us months to get the medicines right, but eventually we got things under control. Well, yesterday my vet said I don't have to take one of my medicines anymore! I'm so happy! He even said that, if he didn't know I was sick, he'd never guess! He said I'm a very healthy cat. I like him a lot. I even jumped on his lap and gave him some kisses! He thinks I'm beautiful too!

Mom is very happy too. She was worried that I wouldn't live very long because I am sick, but I'm proving to be a tough cat to beat!

Here's to many, many more healthy, happy years!
