Arrival Story:
We adopted Ellie and her brother Motor(Back then they were Lily and Napoleon) from Coastal Pet Rescue a little while ago, and they were the lights of our lives from that point on. Ellie had severe deformities in three of her legs, and so we made a point to make our whole home accessible to her--We bought her little steps so that she could get onto and off of the beds and furniture without bumping herself, and made sure she had little hidey-holes where she could go if she wanted some downtime. One of her favourite hidey-holes, much to our surprise, came to be the boxspring of our bed. She tore out little holes in the fabric underside of it and enjoyed spending time in there when she wanted to be alone. Tragically, one night when we had gone out with some friends, Ellie got tangled up in a strip of fabric she had torn loose, and it turned out to be the end of her. We wrapped her in her favourite naptime spot, the big dog bed she came to us with, and buried her in it next to a beautiful Azalea bush. Ellie was the sweetest little being we could ever have hoped to share our lives with, and her loss has struck me harder than I ever would have expected. I'm going to miss seeing her excited little dances when I come home at night, and her insistent songs when it's time for bed. Some solace can be found in her brother, Motor, who was the one to tell us she was gone--She is there in every sweet smile he gives us, and every song he purrs for us. I am grateful for the inspiration she gave us every time she refused to let her disabilities frustrate her, and the laughs we shared when it came time for bed and she would roll around on our pillows to let us know we were taking too long. We will miss her so very much.
