Arrival Story:
Snowball was our first cat, and came to us with that name. When we moved to an apartment where we could have pets, a friend who worked at a local vet hospital, brought her over for us. She'd been brought in by a family which no longer wanted her, and asked the vet to put her to sleep. (I loathe the sort of jerks who get tired of a pet and want to be rid of it.) Instead of killing her, he brought her to us, and she was with us for about ten years.

We had Snowball from about 1965/66 to the mid-70s. (Obviously the birthdate listed is wrong, but Catster only goes back as far as 1970, and won't let us skip the dates when making a page.) She was my mother's cat, and very duchess-y. Not a friendly cat by any means. We didn't know it at the time, but she had FeLuk, and was prone to various sorts of ills. It finally killed her when she was about 11 or 12, and that was the first I'd ever heard of this disease. One of the guys who worked for my father loved her so much that he'd buy her roast beef sandwiches from the deli across the street, and hand feed them to her.
