**Update- In Rememberance**
We lost Maome on Mother's Day, 2012, approx 01:00h. Her kidneys failed and her condition worsened very quickly. She was humanely put down, but not before being cradled in her dad's arms one last time. She had indeed lived an extraordinary life, coming into our home in 2001. She was the constant comfort provider for her dad during his tireless years during law school. When he would come home in the late nights and still have to stay up to prepare for next day's lesson, Maome would sit at his feet and playfully bat at his feet. When Mom came to stay, Maome made it difficult but eventually she won over Mom's heart.
Maome moved with us to the east coast and traveled reasonably well in the cabin, even enduring the short layover in the busy and noisy ORD. In NY she became a ninja cat since our apt did not allow pets. While she was still only an indoor cat, there in NY she saw her first snowfall. Dad even brought her out to the balcony to feel the soft flakes under her paws.
Fast forward two years, and the family relocated to the Middle East. Of course Maome was coming along! She could not fly with us in the cabin due to the many international flight restrictions, so she flew one level below us in cargo. Landing in DXB she was transferred to Dubai Kennels where she resided for a few weeks until her parents were able to find a home and get the keys. How hot and lonely it must have been, but we treasured the many visits we made (and getting lost along the way).
A few years later our family found our way back to the States, and guess who put in another couple thousand miles under her frequent flyer belt? Maome was 10yrs old by then and she still flew magnificiently.
The last two years of her life were filled with two new additions to the family. Yes, there was the obligatory meows when she met each new family member, but she never was aggressive with the boys. She watched and observed them, but kept her distance. Was she watching over them? We'd like to think so.
Goodbye Maome from your entire family. You have touched all of us throughout the years and indeed you were a cherished family member, not a pet. We will miss you dearly, but we have faith that we will meet again. Until that time, be happy and know that we have and always will love you.
We adopted Maome at the National Cat Protection Society in HB/ NB. Maome had a twin sister, but wasn't available when she was picked up. Originally we were looking for a Whiskas orange cat, but those blue eyes looking behind the cage were mesmerizing. She was scared of many things- maybe she and her sister were removed from their mom a bit too early. The cat place named her Su-Ling. Maome didn't like that name and it took over 4 months to name her. We ran out of names so we decided on "maome" which is kitty in Chinese. She is truly a blue point Siamese- she rules the house like a queen.
Maome likes to vomit, urinate, and poop in the car if the drive is more than 30 minutes. She dislikes all female cats and even some female humans.
