In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

John McCrae (1872-1918)

Please take time today to remember all those who have given their lives in the service of their country.

Mom and I want to thank all of my friends on Catster and Dogster who sent me rosettes, gifts and messages in honor of my 11th Bridge Anniversary yesterday. Thanks to Ginger, Sassy & Pepper, Adam Dylan & family, Mr. Sam, Dino, Sparky, Baby Girl & family, Arrow & family, Albert, Athena, and Riley & Skippy for the lovely rosettes and gifts. Thank you, Ishtar, for your kind comments to my last diary entry. Thank you to Felix's and my friends in Happy Kitties, The Kitties' Club, Rainbow Bridge Kitties, Olde Furts, P*I*F (Paw It Forward), and I'm No Longer Alone for remembering me yesterday.

A special thank you to Dino (from Dogster) for creating the very nice remembrance photo for me and for the fun party in P*I*F yesterday, and to Oreo's sweet Bridge sis Eve for hosting a special breakfast at TKC in honor of all our fellow Rainbow Bridge angels. She also took time to give me a special gift.

It's still difficult for Mom to think about my passing, but our wonderful friends on Catster and Dogster have been a big help. God bless you all!

Purrs,
Critter

Ten Years Ago Today

Ten years ago today I made my journey to the Rainbow Bridge. Hard to believe it's been that long. It wasn't an easy journey - my last week on earth was a rough one. I was really sick with yet another infection and just got worse as the week went on. Mom and the vet did what they could. She gave me my medicine and tried to get me to eat and drink, but I just wouldn't, or couldn't. Mom knew it was bad when I wouldn't eat my favorite treat - tuna. She tried getting a special food from the vet into me with a syringe, and as weak as I was, I fought her. I think I knew it was my time to go. Mom finally realized that, too, and decided on that last morning to call the vet and take me back in to see if they agreed or if there was anything else that could be done. She couldn't stand to see me suffer anymore. She decided to try to get a little more food into me - again I fought her and then collapsed. The next thing I knew I was standing at the beautiful Rainbow Bridge, and there were many furs there to greet me. Among them were Mom's childhood cats - Tiger, Blue Boy, Black Jack, Si, and Ming. I was healthy once more, and I craved my tuna again! How happy I was when I found out I could eat as much of it as I wanted up here!

Mom, I don't want you to feel bad about the way I passed. I know you felt guilty and thought that you caused me unnecessary suffering. Thinking about it ten years later, you still feel bad. But please don't. Don't you remember how much I hated going to the vet? I didn't want to make my final journey there - I wanted to make it from home, with just you there. I love you, Mom. I wasn't always easy to live with, but you never abandoned me or pawned me off on someone else. You gave me another nine years of life - if you hadn't taken me in when I was seven years old, I probably would've been put to sleep. Thank you for loving me and being patient with me. Please know that I'm happy and healthy here at the Bridge and watching over you and Felix every day. Remember, we'll meet again one day.

Purrs from the Bridge,
Critter

I was tagged by my friend Greta to say what kind of ice cream I look like and then tag five other friends and ask them to do the same. Let's see - I think I look like an orange sherbet/vanilla ice cream blend. Mmm! Now I am going to tag:

Mr. Sam #448437
Peaches #539300
Ginger #266468
Lacey #613612
Hazel #317652

Tag Game

I've been tagged by my friend Greta! I have to list seven things about myself and then tag seven of my friends.

1. My favorite people food - in fact, one of the few people foods I liked - was, paws down, TUNA! I could only have it as a special treat once in awhile, of course, and I knew when Mom was opening a can. I was in the kitchen in a flash!

2. I had two previous homes before I came to live with Mom. She jokingly said I was her "foster cat," but the truth is, Mom gave me my forever home.

3. I hated veterinarians with a passion and let them know it! I hissed, growled, bit - you name it. When I lived with my first family, one vet they took me to told them never to bring me back there again. Success!

4. My favorite game to play with Mom when I was younger was fetch. She threw a paper wad and I ran and picked it up and brought it back.

5. I had what Mom called a "sock fetish." If she left any socks lying out I would pick them up and carry them around. Sometimes she came home from work and found socks strewn all around the apartment!

6. I loved shoes almost as much as socks! One of my favorite places to nap was on Mom's tennis shoes.

7. I was a big fellow - at one point I tipped the scales at 21 pounds! Mom's dad once jokingly called me "Wide Body." Hey, I wasn't fat - I was "big-boned"! MOL!

I'm tagging these seven friends:

BeeJay #520924
Amelia #421905
Boingo #648200
Chadwick #534672
Mr. Penny #154899
Stonewall Jackson (Stoney) #628797
Miss Dixie Monroe #396548
