Giving thanks

I don’t think much about what I am thankful for as long as I have a bowl of Royal Canin or Ryan’s Pet Promise around. I do not think it is a good idea to leave food lying around, so I take care of that problem.

I am grateful my mom came back and brought her salt water fish with her. They are my new obsession. I sit at their tank most of the day and just watch them. I conspire with the clown fish (we call them “the Nemos”) to get them fed several times a day because I like watching them eat.

I am grateful for the attention I get from my mom and grandma.

I am grateful I am allowed to sleep anywhere I want to.

I am grateful grandma gave up trying to get me used to riding in Big Pink.

Matt's musings

September 25th 2008 11:18 am   [link to this entry]

Has my grandma been that bad? No diary entry since August? Well that's just WRONG!

I am just fine after the horror and trauma of my v-e-t visit and teeth cleaning operation. My leg hair is grown back and my teefs are still pearly white and pretty!

My mom and I are still with grandma, and that suits me fine. Mom's having a hard time getting a job with school and all, and she's kind of reluctant to move out of grandma's place and into a place with her boyfriend as she doesn't want to be financially dependent on him.

Today I am sort of sad though. Remember how my mom brought her salt water fish? Well, my favorite fish, a little striped algae eater of some sort named Hal is sick, and of course fish don't get v-e-t trips. Grandma is wondering if he has a bladder infection. He's sort of swimming sideways. Grandma is going to do a water change to the tank in the hopes that fresh salt water will make him feel better. I do enjoy watching those fish!

Last night I wanted to sit on my mom's lap and snuggle with her and my favorite pink blankie. But she was sitting next to her boyfriend and he wouldn't let me up there.

I think I will plot against his stupid snake. It's icky. It's a spotted python and both my grandma and mom hate it and won't touch it, even to give it water. And my mom's boyfriend has to feed it in private. We refuse to watch.

the most uncool thing ever!

It has taken me nearly a full day to recover from the horror and the trauma!

I have to go to the v-e-t and I got left there! I cried all the way there (a 20-minute drive!) and then grandma took me out of the carrier and they weighed me and immediately started talking about my weight and something called metabolic syndrome. I MUST lose weight, which is hard to do in a multicat household when a couple of the cats need to eat all day whenever they want! The v-e-t listened to my heart and lungs and felt my belly but I refused to stand up on the exam table.

Then the worse thing—they took me from grandma and took blood and gave me a shot and then PUT ME IN A CAGE! They gave me some food and that was it. At 10 p.m. they took my food and water away. What kind of kitty boarding is this, and why ME?

The next morning they shaved my leg and put in a needle, and I nodded off. When I woke up, my mouth was a little sore but the tartar on my upper molars was all gone! A few hours later, grandma and my mom came with the carrier and the vet tech put me in and I got to go home! I was so angry that I refused to eat at the v-e-t after I woke up! Imagine, me, Matt, refusing to eat!

I was still a little dizzy so I went and hid for awhile but then thought better and found the food bowl and our drinking fountain. And I drank lots!

Today I feel much better and I'm hanging out watching my mom's fish. We did not start my special diet; when I move with my mom I will be an only cat and it will be easier to help me lose weight with a special diet. The v-e-t called it a diabetic diet. I dunno it sounds kind of icky to me!

Best part of all—I don't have to go back to the v-e-t in a year! Unless they decide they need to monitor my weight loss ... I sure hope not!
