Arrival Story:
Malka was adopted from the CACC--otherwise known as the pound--in the area of Manhattan known as Spanish Harlem. The biographical data on the tag on her cage said she had simply been left in front of the CACC a few weeks before. It is unknown if she had any siblings who were dropped off too. While her ancestry is unknown, her petite frame, vocal nature, and head and body shape make us think she's probably part Oriental (Siamese, Balinese, etc.), but her calico coloring suggests the other half is probably good old American Shorthair.

Bio:
About a year after I got Sammy, I went looking for a little sister for him at the local pound. He was being left alone all day when I was at work and I was feeling guilty--he needed a friend to play with. I decided to get a kitten who was younger than him and female so he wouldn't feel too threatened by this new interloper in his formerly one-cat home, and I wanted a calico because they looked neat. I found Malka, a tiny and feisty kitty who fit the bill perfectly. She was sassy, confident, and curious about everything from the get-go, despite being stuck in a home with a big brother who was a bit tweaked out at her arrival at first, determined to retain his alpha status. She's become a bit calmer and more affectionate with people over time, but remains more adventuresome (especially with regards to jumping and poking around high places) than her brother. They're good for each other.
