   Leave a treat for Dante

Quick Bio:
-mixed breed-pound cat-cat rescue

Likes:
Dante isn't a lap cat. He enjoys being near 'his' people, but usually sitting adjacent to them. He loves rubbing up against my hand and having a scratch, and being petted while he lays down beside me. He is very timid around strangers but never mean.

Pet-Peeves:
Being picked up or held, loud noise, is finicky with eating food sometimes - even people food that cats would normally love!

Favorite Toy:
Anything with catnip, or any type of ribbon/string, balls with bells in them

Favorite Nap Spot:
He loves napping and gazing out my bedroom window for hours on end. He has his own feather pillow on my bed, and prefers to sleep at the end of the bed on it. He also loves it when I make him a 'nest' out of a big, thick blanket and put him in it.

Favorite Food:
Nutro Max Cat - no by-products!

Skills:
Dante is EXTREMELY intelligent. He will 'map out' a route of where he wants to go regarding jumping on top of something, etc. He is extremely perceptive of his surroundings and of people's moods. He also possesses very good hunting instincts.

Dwells:
indoors

Arrival Story:
When I first went away to college in 1999, I decided that I wanted to try and sneak a kitten into my dorm room. I was extremely homesick! I decided to go to the local shelter with a few friends and pick out a kitten. The shelter was FILTHY. There were between 20 and 30 kittens in one outside enclosure, and all of them were absolutely filthy. What I thought to be a tortoise shell little ball of fluffy kitten jumped into my arms, and I was instantly in love. I was told that he was already neutered, and charged $30 for him. One week later, the animal shelter tragically burnt down and most of the animals perished. When I took him back to my dorm room, I gave him a flea bath first thing. He was NOT happy about that, but you can imagine my surprise when I pulled him out of the water and discovered he was orange and white!!! We became fast friends after his initial reaction to the bath, and he has been my baby ever since. I did find out later that Dante wasn't neutered as the shelter said he was (I thought he seemed a bit young to have been neutered), so obviously he has been neutered since then.

Bio:
Dante was put to rest on September 14, 2004 after a month-long battle with a blocked urethra. Numerous emergency vet visits, weeks of time at our regular vet's office, and multiple catheterisations took its toll on him. During an emergency last-resort surgery, the vet discovered that his urethra was so scarred that he was unable to stitch him back up to close the wound. Dante himself was doing fine during the surgery, but if you can't close him back up I guess there's not much you can do. I got the call to come in and have him put down while he was still under the anesthesia, so I went in and told him how much everyone loved him...his mommy and daddy, his grandma and grandpa, his sister Pickle, and all of his friends. I told him I was sorry, and that he wouldn't be in pain any longer. I brought him home and my mother dug his grave in the backyard, under our tree where he would sit on the rare occasions I let him outside. The pain from this is still so fresh in my mind. He was only six years old. I miss him so much and still can't believe I'm never going to see him again. Dante, I'm sorry, and I love you. I'll never forget you.
