Arrival Story: I adopted Jellybean (actually Jellybean II) in November of 2006. Jellybean is a spunky, spirited little tortoiseshell kitty. She was also diabetic. She's not fond of other cats, and is quick to let the other cats know that if they cross her. She's an angel for her blood sugar testing, and usually lies down on a rug to be tested.
Jellybean was admitted to the shelter in February 1997, as a kitten. She was adopted quickly, but returned years later for urinating outside the litterbox. The shelter staff soon discovered the poor girl had a horrible urinary tract infection, and her urine was red with blood. Once treated, she resumed her good litterbox habits. She was adopted again, but one day the shelter received a call from another rescue organization - Jellybean had been admitted there by her owner. They went and picked her up. A few months after her re-admission, she was diagnosed with diabetes, which made her chances at another home decrease dramatically. The shelter put her in their new canned food only room, and on the oral medication Glipizide. The oral medication didn't work well, so they started her on insulin a few days before I brought her home. She did well on Dr. Hodgkins' treatment protocol, and hasn't needed insulin since December 30, 2006!
