Arrival Story:
Nine years ago my vet, Charlie West, called me and told me I had to come over to the clinic and get a cat and adopt her. Her human had died and the family wanted Abby "put down" because she was 10 years old and had allergy problems. I went over to the clinic to meet her. She was a dark tortoise shell/tabby with lovely green eyes. It was over from the minute I took her in my arms and she loudly demanded to be taken home. Her big allergy problem turned to be an allergy to fleas. Oh, duh. Advantage-indoor kitty-end of problem-no brainer.

Bio:
Abby shared her wonderful whimsical sense of humor & my lap with me for 9 years. We started our life together in Memphis TN. In the first couple of years we were together we added 5 more cats to our family [I've been in cat rescue for over 30 years]. She let each of them know from the start who the alpha of the family was and that was that. When she was 16 I moved our family from Memphis to Cochise County AZ. We made the trip in a rented mini -van with six crated kitties and 20 bonsai trees. The other 5 cats made the 37 hour trip in their carry cases at various levels of sedation. We made numerous stops to water feed and resedate as needed for everyone but Abs. Intrepid as ever she traveled in my lap and developed a fastination with 18 wheelers. Everytime we passed one or one passed us she would jump up and put her front paws on the door handle and meow excitedly. At one truck stop somewhere in the middle of nowhere Texas we parked next to one and she wanted to get out and go look at it. That was 32 months ago. She made the transition from an all cat family in the summer of 2002 when I came home from my morning run with a dog . While she didn't welcome Ranger with open paws she accepted him and several months later another big dog Katie. She was obviously getting older and her hearing diminished and she became frail, but was still the top cat. Then about a month ago I took her to the vet and found out she was in kidney failure. After a week of giving her subcutaneous fluids 3 times a day she got to the point on 26 July 2004 where she didn't want to be here anymore. So her vet came over after work and we helped Abbagale over the Rainbow Bridge. I dug a deep hole in the flower bed under the window in my office I got a big stone to put over the grave and we placed a small stone Buddah kitty given to me for a bonsai months before on top of the stones. I raise miniature roses so every couple of days I put a sprig of tiny roses on the stone by the Buddah kitty. In the spring I am going to dig up the flower bed and plant fresh aromatic herbs around her grave.
