I've noticed that, like many cats, K. enjoys paper bags. Like grocery bags. Since everything he thinks and does is incredibly important I've paid close attention to what he seems to like most about them. Here's my conclusion.
1) Texture/Environmentally friendly/Noise --
Not only does K. like to climb inside the bag, he sometimes walks right on top of them. This is obviously because he enjoys the grainy paper pulp texture. The tiny "holes" in the bag trap cat-body-heat instantly making it a perfect walking/laying pad. It also makes crinkly noises. The bags are made of recycled material and I'm sure K. would have it no other way, since the texture would be different. He also supports recycling, because it helps clean up his world, which you are polluting. But don't worry.. he still likes you sometimes.
2) Privacy/Size --
No one knows better than K. Sarin how important it is to have a dark, quiet place to think about quantum physics and the state of the universe. It's best if no one can see you while you're thinking, because you might have to scratch your face with your feet or chew on your foot, and everyone will want to tell you how good you look, which is a distraction. A paper grocery bag provides a perfect private place. It's also just the right size, denying entry to giant people.
3) Availability/Portable --
These bags appear randomly throughout the house. When one gets old, it disappears and turns into a fresh bag, usually in another room. They usually come standard with handles for dragging them to another area.
I'd read this aloud to see if K. agrees with all of it (I'm sure he does) but he's busy staring out the window at the grass.
