Arrival Story:
Thom came to me as the result of a "stupid human trick." He lived with my fiance's family, who rescued him from a nasty divorce. His first family fought so hard over who got custody of him and were not willing to allow the other to have him when they divorced, that he was going to be sent to the pound! His new family had him for quite a while, and one of his habits was to jump up onto a ledge over the entrance where "mom" kept her collection of scale houses (she's a Realtor). Thom, big as he is, could jump up or down, and even walk and lay down to take a nap among the houses with no problem and no damage. Unfortunately, one day DAD saw him jumping up and made the mistake of grabbing the cat. The cat, of course, grabbed the shelf... and that was all she wrote. Down came the shelf and the houses... and the CAT got the blame. YOU tell ME whose fault it was.. the cat who had been safely napping there for ages, or the human who was dumb enough to try to grab a cat in mid-jump?? In any case, Mom was unwilling to blame Dad and Thom was once again pound-bound. Thom had become quite attached to my fiance, who was staying there at the time, and vice versa... so he asked me if Thom could join my (eventually to be OUR) family and of course I said yes.
