Arrival Story:
I picked him out at the humane society when he was 4 months old. I love him so much :)

Last year shadow had a blockage in the bile duct that connects the gallbladder to the small intestine. he became very ill and stopped eating, because he couldn't digest his food. I finally realized something was wrong when I picked him up one day and could feel all his bones! he had gone from 10 pounds to 7 pounds. I took him in to the vet and they said his liver enzyme levels were at 900 when normal levels are between 20-100! they also noticed that under his fluffy black fur, his skin was jaundiced, because of all the bile backing up. I brought him back for a biopsy but they said it was not needed because they found out about the blockage with just an ultrasound. they scheduled him for surgery that weekend, and taught me how to force feed him mashed up food mixed with water in a big syringe, and how to administer "sub Q" IV fluids. he wasn't very happy about that part. I brought him in to a special vet surgeon that weekend and was so worried about him. My baby is such a fighter, he made it through surgery like a pro! they bypassed the blockage by cutting a hole in his gallbladder and a hole in his intestine and sewed them together. they also took a biopsy of the blockage, which came back as negative for cancerous tissue, thank god, they said it was some sort of scar tissue. shadow had a feeding tube when I went to pick him up a few days later, but he was already eating solid food, the vets were very happy and surprised. he looked so pitiful, with his Elizabethan collar and a feeding tube in his neck, and a shaved tummy and pain med patches on his ankles. shadow recovered in no time though. he pulled out his feeding tube the first night and then all of the staples in his tummy over the next few days, naughty boy, but he truly came back from the brink of death. today is now over 11 pounds and back to his normal silly self, and I couldn't be happier. :)

Shadow went missing a few nights ago. I left the front door unlocked and he learned how to open it while I slept. I took that day off work to look for him, but never found him. He didn't come back the next day either. The day after that I plastered the town with lost kitty posters and put an ad on craigslist. Yesterday I finally went down to the humane society and reported him missing, and updated his microchip info because I had moved and got a new phone. He wasn't at the shelter then, but an hour after I left they called me and said that Caltrans had dropped him off deceased. He must have wandered onto the freeway and got hit by a car. I'll miss you baby. :(
