Arrival Story:
I've sure I haven't been treated as well as I deserve, but that's just my opinion. I have never been homeless, just passed around a few times. When I was two, I moved into a house with 3 other cats. I learned that the squeaky wheel doesn't necessarily get the grease. People just complain about it more. Some say I have querks, I just know I am the best at yowling, head-butting, door-scratching, and generally being where people don't want me to be. It's more of a talent. Well, with all these little talents of mine, my family still managed to ignore me. However, when my "sister" would come home from college, she loved me like noone else and she appreciated all of my oddities. In the last year, I went to live with her and we are two peas in a pod now. She won't let me drink milk or eat ice cream, and she only feeds me once a day, but this might just work out ok.

My sis stopped setting her alarm because I wake her up early every morning. If I plant my chin under her shoulder just right and push really hard, I can turn her over.

She was a spry old girl. I had to let her go last night. Besides being blind, I think her echo-location system was on the fritz...and her hips cracked when she walked...and she had serious bladder problems. I have no qualms about my decision, but it will take a bit of time to modify my routine without her. That really is a horrible experience (my first) but the vet was very respectful. I love my baby.

What do you know about bladder cancer?

My old kitty showed signs of urinary problems and the vet found blood in her urine and abnormal cells. I am not going to treat this or go through with any further testing because it doesn't change the diagnosis. I will wait and see.

New Food, No Teeth

Lucy is an old lady. I can accept that. She turns 17 this month. She has been eating solid food her entire life with little exception. Last week, I was vacuuming and found a canine tooth on the floor. I was worried and went to check her mouth. I expected to find a mouth full of teeth with one obviously missing. Apparently, the one that fell out was one of the few remaining.

She has no teeth in the front half of her mouth. When observing her eating, I noticed she didn't chew her food (not unexpected anyway). I gave her softer food, meat bits in gravy, but she just drank the gravy and let the food dry up so I finally understood that she's ready for the ultimate old lady food, pate. Now that I have caught on to what she has been trying tell me for a while, she is a happy baby, sucking up her food with her tongue and the top of her mouth. Sometimes I'm slow, but I love her. Besides, it is in my best interest to keep her happy.
