 Birthday: July 28th 2006
 Coloration: Brown-Patched Tabby

Likes: Pokey loves being out on the patio, where he chases bugs, and then eats them, and hides from the birds and squirrels.

Pet-Peeves: only the word NO, after which he'll run to hide somewhere like he's in trouble

Favorite Toy: Pokey LOVED the red laser pointer! Now it is just a shoelace, or knocking over anything he can from a dresser or night stand or table...

Favorite Nap Spot: His cat/dog bed, either of the cat trees, linen closet or next to the front door

Favorite Food: Pokey loves Spot's Stew seafood dry, and canned EVO and Holistic Select

Skills: He has "Hemmingway?" toes that can grip things like a human hand! He is a good jumper too.

Dwells:
indoors

Arrival Story: I wanted a cat similar to my deceased Puddy, and believing that she was mainly Norwegian Forest Cat I started researching breeders. On Catster I saw a cat similar to her looks, and asked that owner who they got their cat from. It was from a local breeder in Tracy, CA that I had already contacted. As it turns out, due to the time and litter choices (and the fact that he said it might be his last year breeding NFC's), I got a male instead of female, and not a tortie although he tried to get me one; the female would not mate with the male he wanted. A pet communicator told me that he would be very healthy, very sweet, but a handful. Boy was she right! If a cat can have A.D.D., it's Pokey!! But he is the sweetest boy I could ask for! We paid for most of his fee from gambling money from Las Vegas, hence the name Poker Chip :-)

Bio: P.S.
It turns out that other Catster members Sissel, and her brother Smudge, are blood brother's to Pokey as they have the same parents!! :-) And now we know of Harry too!! Family is great!

I moved 5 times in my 5 years, but I am still shy and skittish. My mom surrogate Patches is at least 10 years now and Cami too! I sniff Cami every day to see if she is ok, I can tell something is going on. Mom gives her a lot of attention, but I think it is because something is wrong. Cami gets a lot of stuff done to her. I do love her though! Sometimes she swats me because I go to rub her and knock her over (almost) but I mean well!! Momma Patches is getting more mellow, maybe a good thing, and seems a bit arthritic but she still treats me like I am her baby most of the time. We still groom each other after almost 5 years and I look forward to that time of the day! I love to chase bugs and watch the squirrels. And I try to get to Tiger, the homeless cat mom feeds, but cannot go outside. Mom tries to tell me what it is like for him, but I don't get it. I have always had a home, beds, 24 hr food....I can't relate. Patches and Cami can though....Funny, I am the most scardy cat of the 3, but I am getting better! I love my home with lots of windows and we all fit together so well. I hope Patches does not get sick like Cami as we are very bonded. Cami just likes mom....always with her. I don't demand attention like the other 2 but when I want more I stand up and put my paws on my mom's waist and she knows what to do. I do not however, really like to be held. I do like being brushed though! Ok I will check back later......peace.

I just read the diary of my relative Sissel- and found out I can have one too!! Mom just saw her posting in a round-about way and was very sad to read about her liver disease! Her mom was mentioning pet insurance which made Mom happy too. The end of last year she signed up all 3 of us with Pet Plan, the one the Humane Society uses, and allows holistic vet visits as well, and is really happy now that she did! She too thought that I was so young, should she, but with a higher ( $200 deductible each per illness) ALL of us were only $465 a year total!. I got sick once, vomiting for a day and not eating, very lethargic and not playing, and she got fresh ginger with water and a dropper and made me drink water. And canned food with water in a dropper as well. The minute I got the ginger I stopped throwing up! Slowly I got my appetite back the next couple of days, right when she was about to take me to the vet as I looked and felt terrible . I must have eaten somethiing wierd?? Anyhow, after spending over $12,000.00 on late Puddy, she did the right thing. For anyone considering insurance or thinking it is too late because you already had an illness, you can usually still get insurance, but they will exclude the prior illnesses as pre-existing, but the rest should be covered! I am so thankfu lSissel seems to be ok now and hopefully back to normal!!
