Finally, some heat!

Wow, it's been nearly a year since my last entry...so much has changed; and yet some things have stayed the same.

I'm happy to report the heat is on and I make my way to the heater vents every time I hear that sucker click on! If I can stay warm that way, maybe I can avoid having one of those dag nabit sweaters put on me (yeah right!).

OOOHHHH the hum...catmanity!

It's getting pretty cold here now and I get under the blankets a lot more than before. Mom's kept the heat off but saw how cold I'd been getting and turned it on. That's much better than what she's been doing...putting those bloody sweaters on me. Gawd I hate clothes! Why must she torture me???

Clifford the coated kitty is becoming more brotherly. We romp around more than we had and he's got the game of chase the Niki and run from the Niki down pretty well...though he could be more enthusiastic about it.

I've heard Mr. Keith talking about visiting at his house over the holiday. He and Mommy took me there for a couple hours a few weeks ago to introduce me to the vast spaciousness. There's two sets of stairs...which will be GREAT to run and chase up and down.

I'm looking forward to tasting Mr. Keith's famous smoked turkey on Thanksgiving!! Maybe he'll even cook me up some of the innards.

Finally!

Cliffy chases back! He's finally understanding the rules of play. I chase him...he chases me back. Good grief that took long enough!

Mews Update

Not too much to report on.

The tester car rides turned out to be a precursor to a visit to Mommy's work and the vet. I've been to Mommy's work three times now.

The vet wasn't particularly great, but seeing as all the poking and proding was done for my health certificate, this time was just a look see by the new vet. A 'get to know you' session, says my Mommy. Poor brother Cliffy had to have shots, blood drawn and liquid meds put in his nose! Tomorrow he goes to get his teeth cleaned. Lucky him!! NOT

Bath time hasn't gotten much better...in fact, I'm getting two a week now! The sphynx gunk in my ears has decreased since Mommy got some special stuff from the vet. Mom hopes to find a better shampoo for me and has changed our food to a blend of Skin30 from Royal Canin and Nutro Natural Choice Complete Care that's 'guaranteed' to show skin improvement.

A week of Mews

Things have gotten better in the new home. Brother Clifford and I are getting along better, though he still doesn't get that he can and SHOULD chase me when I chase after him first. Mom's gotten a couple of photos of us sitting close. She hopes we'll be curled up together snugglin' soon. In her dreams!!

We took 2 car rides this past week. The first one was just to get me in the car and see how I did. Mom was happy that I didn't throw a fuss or even cry; I was just inquisative. We took a ride around the neighborhood. The next day we went took a drive to Mommy's work. We just stayed in the parking lot, but it made her feel good that I'll be good when she takes me to work soon to show me off.

Bath time has gotten longer, but I'm getting cleaner...at least for a day. Mommy can't believe just how dirty I can get. She's thinking a change in litter might be in order. She doesn't really like the crystals, but she'd like to see if the current litter contributes to me looking like Peanuts character, Pigpen.

The worst thing of all this week was that Mom got me a harness...that fits :( I had to wear it for about an hour today....and I don't like it. Mommy did benefit 'cause I didn't want to leave her until she took that friggin' thing off!

Bad bath - by Mommy

Niki wouldn't come to the computer to make an entry, so I'm going to do it from my perspective.

I thought I would try giving her a bath in the kitchen sink. The water can get higher and I could utilize the sprayer which I thought would make the bath easier. WRONG! It was the worst thing I could have done. Luckily I clipped her nails this past weekend and I think I escaped without any scratches on my shoulders or back where she tried clawing her way over me half a dozen times.

I guess I'll be writing Mommy Allison to find out how she handled bath night and if there's a better way to do it to make it less stressful for Niki...and me.

I'm going to let Niki rest a while before I subject her to cleaning her ears. :( Plus I need to dry off...the entire front of my shirt is soaked through.

Bath night

Mom gave me my first bath tonight. She was a bit surprised at just how dirty I could get in a week! She also didn't realize that I'm not exactly fond of bath time. She's experienced worse, but this is gonna be a once a week task that she'll have to hear me cry through...pitifully.

I'm squeaky clean and my ears are pretty clean too. Mom will need a little practice with that though. I don't like it much at all and some ear cleaner might be in my future.

I proved that I still lover her though and played after I was clean and dry.

Day Mew

It seems like I've been here a week, and it's not even been 48 hours! Mommy's getting impatient to have me fully adjusted and more comfortable being other places in the house instead of staying huddled in my sanctuary room.

Well what does she expect? I was out this morning and brother Clifford wasn't very pleasant to be around. He tolerated my presense in the room. Mommy tried to distract him by shoelace fishing. I became interested and Mommy started fishing for me, with Cliffy's shoelace. He didn't like that much at all! He came over hissing and then whallupped me one right on the head!! That was pretty intimidating. Mommy stepped in and picked me up since I was hunched up on the floor waiting for the next smack.

Budding up with Cliffy isn't going great, but I understand he's the alpha cat so when he hisses and puffs up, I stand down and sit tight. He may not realize it, but I've eaten out of his bowl, drank his water and used his litter box!

Arrived safe and sound...and thirsty! - By Mommy

Niki is my first Sphynx. She's as wonderful as I always imagined. It's hard to believe I've wanted a bare kitty for nearly 15 years and I was able to get the timing right to find one so sweet and in need of a good home.

In true Sphynx form, she's taken to me pretty quickly. She rubbed on my hand as soon as I stuck it in the carrier. Since she'd been at traveling since 3:30 quenching her thirst was a priority upon opening the carrier door at 10:30. While we waited at Delta Cargo, I was able to get her some water and she had at least 5 oz lapped up in no time. Then it was time to come out of the carrier and investigate (I suspect...for a litter box).

Once she arrived home and in her 'sanctuary room' she's adapted quickly. After doing a quick pass over the room, she hit the litter box. Then the water and food bowl. She's a little piggy!! She's not been here a little over 12 hours and I've already filled her bowl twice!

Cliffy was a little disturbed and hissed a bit through the door, but has been easily distracted. This morning when I opened the door to fill her water, Cliff got a glance...and promptly hissed at the sight of his new sister.

Niki doesn't seem to mind the new surroundings or scent. I think once the introductions actually start, Cliffy will the one who needs to adjust his attitude.

I've taken the next several days off of work to allow us all time to get to know the sights and smells of new life together. I'm glad I did take time off 'cause Cliffy's gonna need some help getting comfortable with the new family member.
