Arrival Story:
After we adopted Lily, we knew we wanted to get a second cat. We got Hero from a wonderful rescue in New York, Zani's Furry Friends. We saw her listed on Petfinder, contacted Zani's, & went to visit her. We were charmed by her big green eyes & decided to take her home, less than a week after bringing Lily home, in April 2007.
Bio:
Hero's name comes from Shakespeare, but is also a reference to Fire & Hemlock by Diana Wynne Jones. Miss Hero is a little bit timid sometimes. She was rescued from a house with 30 other cats, & she is definitely a cat's cat who wants cat buddies. But Lily doesn't want to be friends, & constantly getting rejected has gotten Hero down.
But! She has become friends, of a sort, with Mr. Bester. They will sleep near each other (one on the ottoman, one on the armchair, sometimes both next to each other on the floor) & sometimes will play. However, Hero's sense of play is much more vigorous & violent than Mr. Bester's, so often their playing turns into kitty combat.
At first she was shy about being petted, snapping at us if we tried to give her full-body pets but really liking to be scritched on the neck. But now she will let us pet her a lot!
She likes to sit on the toilet seat while someone's in the shower in the morning. Her meow was so teeny & cute, but now that she's more confident in our home, her meow's volume has increased.
She will chomp you if you pet her too hard or otherwise annoy her, but she also gives little chomps on the nose out of fondness. She's declawed--we would never declaw a cat (it's inhumane!), but because we already had Lily, who happened to be declawed, we thought we'd err on the side of safety & adopt another cat who'd already been declawed.
