Arrival Story: My husband and I have friends who rescued a litter of 4 kitties. When they brought them home they put a bulletin out to all their friend's on myspace about the kitties. After a week, my husband asked me if I wanted one. I NEVER thought he'd be into having another kitty, so I was pleasantly shocked. 2 years ago our geriatric siamese rescue from a kill shelter died. after 4 beautiful years with her, it was devastating. She was also my husband's first cat (although she was technically mine, they shared a bond that was so special...) and my second siamese. By the time we had called our friends, we discovered that all the kitties had already been placed. But I seized the oppertunity to search for another siamese.
After looking around and calling every animal shelter in town I got on the net and looked at rescue groups. I found several, but one stood out. RescueCats.org
I called and spoke with Marty Rogers about my desire to find a siamese mix. She told me that yes, they do come through and fairly often. At the time she mentioned that a litter with a flame point siamese baby would be ready to go soon. I decided to think about it.
I read and re-read every word on their website. I called their vet (who also happened to have been a vet for our ferret) and found that her organization was 100% legit. All these kitties come with papers and reciepts from the vet assuring their health FIV negative, Feline Leukemia negative, with heartguard and frontline, a micro chip, a bag of science diet, and pet insurance.
AND 100% of the money for their SMALL adoption fee (only $135 for a siamese) was 100% tax deductable and ALL went back in to help rescue more cats and kitties.
I decided to file our application.
We were approved, I paid the adoption fee and set the date. Next week Sushi will be old enough to be fixed and then come home to us. We are so excited!
Now Sushi is the reason I am searching out ways to help place these siamese kitties. RescueCats has about 10 siamese mix kittens to place. And EVERY ONE has someone to love them, with no fear of disease, no fear of neglect, no fear of death if someone doesn't come fast enough. Marty and the rest of the volunteers are patient and loving souls. I feel so lucky to have found them myself.
Bio: HOW SUSHI WAS BORN AT RESCUE CATS:
Sushi's gorgeous seal point siamese mom, Shinshi belonged to a family who did not really love her.... sometimes they tolerated her in the house, but one day she began to yowl loudly for hours on end. The family did not understand that this was behavior that came from not being spayed. Instead of searching for a cure for her yowl and taking her to the vet, they threw her out of the house. When ShinShi became pregnant, they noticed the yowl had stopped. ShinShi was allowed in once again. Shinshi was upset that she had spent so many nights in the cold rain before her family allowed her home again.... she missed the litter box a couple times in her anger.
The family once again tossed their pregnant cat outside with no hope of allowing her to come inside.
Luckily for Shinshi a neighbor saw this injustice. She asked the family to please consider bringing the cat back in. She explained that a cat outside is in danger of being hurt or attacked, and the weather was unusally cold for the time of year. "No." they said. The kind neighbor worked with rescue cats as a volunteer.... but her home was so full with other foster kitties she knew that she could not bring ShinShi in. Then the rain came again, follwed by hail.... SHE COULD NOT LEAVE POOR SHINSHI OUTSIDE! That night ShinShi found a new home. Room was made for her. Shinshi blessed the kind volunteer and her family of 8 adopted skin kids with 5 babies. And thus Sushi was born as a rescue cat.
Sushi's new brothers and sisters include 2 ferrets, 2 guinea pigs and one border collie :)

I've Been On Catster Since:
Wow! I got "fixed" which apparently means they take off a piece that ISN"T broken, then FIX the hole.
It didn't hurt, and I don't really notice it much.
I woke up really quick so Marty said I could go home with my new parents tonight.
(thank god they have internet, otherwise I wouldn't know where I would blog!)
They are realllly nice. I met Mom first, she filled out my paperwork. Then dad came. When dad got to hold me he didn't want to put me down! Mom tried to take me a couple of times, but dad only let her hold me for the picture.... Ha!
Dad and I have already bonded pretty well!
I love mom too, I curled up with her for a nap. I slept right on top of her chest and neck where it is warm and I could feel her heart beating.
I was tuckered out from playing so much.
Mom and Dad both are amazed at how much I talk. Its the siamese in me.... I have LOTS to say. I told them about my likes and dislikes, and my day, and my brothers and sisters, and about Miss Marty, I told them off for making me get in the car. I do NOT like cars, although it did take me to my new house, so I forgave them. I LOVE my new house, lots to play on! Mom and dad bought me a "kitty condo" and a million toys.... Yep. I think I am going to like it here just fine. Now if only dad would put me down so that I can walk by myself occasionally!

I am about to go in to get "fixed" (even though I still havent found my broken piece...) so I have to make this quick.
I was disappointed to find out that getting "shots" was NOT kitty treats. DO YOU KNOW THEY PINCH YOU IN THE BUTT WITH A METAL STICK?! Ouchies!
It wasn't that bad though. I got lots of kisses and cuddles from Miss Marty to make my boo boos feel better. The Vet was very nice too. Her name is Miss Karen. She talked nice to me the whole time and gave me a pet and a scratch under my chin. She told me that the pinch will keep me from being sick.
Miss Marty also told me that my mom and dad are looking into being foster parents for some of the other kittens at the rescue.
I may come home with some friends after all! Even though they won't stay, I'll still have buddies to play with which is really nice.
She told me that its not set in stone since they have to talk to someone named Landlord about it. What a funny name! Landlord?!!! I shouldn't talk. My foster mommy said that my name is another word for raw fish and rice. (YUMMY!) I am named after tasty things!
Anyway... I have to go now. They said that if I wake up quickly and look happy by tonight, I can go home today!!! I hope I wake up fast! I"M READY!
Wish me luck!
Pounces and Purrs,
Sushi
