Mom and I were chilling by our computer. I was sitting by her right hand and crowding her computer mouse. I suddenly looked up towards the window. She thought that maybe I spotted a hummingbird at our feeder! We've only seen one so far this spring. Then she heard a sound that put her into panic ... the sound of a wasp. She almost knocked over her computer while jumping to her feet. Sure enough, there was a huge wasp inside our house! It had buzzed up right behind her head when she was still sitting at the computer. It was now buzzing at our window. I was going in for a closer look when she pulled me away and yelled NO! (I got stung by one a few years ago and it hurt like crazy.) She was hoping I would remember that and stay away from it while she went for something to kill it with. I was still curious so Mom really yelled at me and pulled me back. She was acting so strange that Kitcat woke from a deep sleep to see what was going on! Mom rolled up some newspaper and was going to squash it with that. But she was afraid to miss and just make it angry. So, she ran for a can of W-40 and just prayed that us kitties would leave it alone while she got her wasp killing supplies. She needn't have worried as Kitcat and I hid under a chair as Mom was behaving so strangely. (She has a phobia about wasps.) Anyhow, Mom came back to the window and sprayed the wasp with WD-40. The oil coats its wings and it drops and cannot fly. Then she went crazy smashing it with the rolled up newspaper. It did take several swings to kill it. So she was glad she chose the oil method before just swinging at it with the newspaper. I heard her mumble something about it being one of the only times she misses her ex-husband. He dealt with bugs for her.
Anyhow, so now she has to clean up all the WD-40 oil from the window, the wall, and other parts of our kitchen breakfast nook/computer table.
Wish we could run a video camera as you should have seen her!!! Talk about freaking out!
Kitcat & I are just going to give her some space for a little while.
Well, MOL! Not fur that nasty wasp, bur fur all the antics...we know about those here too, we get wasps and hornets in here, regularly! OMC! So far we and dog guy haven't been stung, not so fur the peeps...(But dog guy did get stung outside once...)
I bet cleaning up oil is a real joy?!
MOL! Those wasps can be nasty, glad she got rid of it!
MOL, that's hairlarious - she sounds like she's lost it!!! Great job staying clear of all the dangers in your house, MOL.
We get those bitin bugs too. Mama never knows how they get in, but all of a sudden there they are, cruisin round. Even in the winter whenever it gets warm, we will get one or two. Mama knows Raid or somethin like that is very bad for us, so she uses her hair sprays. It is like the oil. The bitin bug gets too heavy to fly. Then when it "falls outta the sky," mama squishes it over and over and over. Sumtimes we got pretty stiff curtains in the office. ;) Those bitin bugs are SO bad. Mama always thanks me and Gunnie for tellin her when we got a bitin bug. Gunnie and I are glad your mama pertecks you from the bitin bugs.
Hehe- my mom is the exact same way- but about spiders. If she can't get someone else to kill it for her, she becomes a ruthless killer, using whatever is handy. For some reason she always has to scream even while she is squashing it with a book or something- like a war cry. A good spray to use when there is no bug spray is Tilex. But it's not good to use near fabric. Wasps are definitely freaky because they can sting over and over. My mom once got stung 3x in a row on her arm when she was a child.
It's a good thing you kept out of the way and didn't get stung as that sounds horrid. Your mum was brave to rescue you and kill the evil wasp. Purrs Toby
We lost our internet for a week! Sorry for the delay in reading your cool comments.
Thank you everyone for the comments on my diary. Since then, another wasp was in our house. Mom had the supplies on hand and didn't act up as much as she did the first time. She was much more calm. Plus, the wasp was out of our reach so she didn't have to worry about us being stung. Kitcat was the one who pointed it out to Mom this time.
Mom doesn't like wasp either. BTW, there was a nest of them last year outside. Dad took care of that and sprayed and sprayed and sprayed. Concats on being a DDP.

Thank you everyone! For the concats and cool comments on my diary.
We are generally of the mind set of live and let live. But forget it when it comes to wasps in our house.
One comment was about how hairspray works just like WD-40 and is easier to clean up. Mom gets asthma attacks when she is anywhere near hairspray. So it was a really good tip for most everyone! But Mom cannot use it.
The WD-40 wasn't that hard to clean up. Mom likes the smell of that.
MOLVMOL we missed this diary we just found it when kitkat make reference to it that was funny. Mom is like that about spiders she freaks lucky we do see them around her (the HOA for our town home uses someting very good on the common grounds) I find it kinda entertaining when mom freaks but the others get pretty scared.
