Arrival Story:
Zoe is one of four kittens captured along with their mother in the parking lot at my office. They came to the attention of some people who were concerned they would be run over by cars and who then called Animal Control. Animal Control would take the kittens to a shelter where they would be put down if not adopted within 2 weeks. Since there are so many kittens in shelters right now and these guys are somewhat timid/feral, we were afraid that their chances for adoption would not be good. Instead of turning the kittens over to Animal Control, we brought them home with the intent of getting them fixed and released on my property out in the country where no one would bother them. However, we discovered that some of them were showing symptoms of upper respiratory infection, so we began treating them all with antibiotics. As we handled them twice daily to medicate, we discovered that they are acclimating to human touch nicely, especially Zoe, and will likely make good house pets. The kittens are being kept in a cage on our back deck while being medicated, but will going to a no-kill shelter in the hopes of finding loving homes. This was our first foray into cat rescue and will be our last as it is too emotionally draining.

Zoe is the most recognizable of the four kittens with her white chest and four white feet. For some reason, everyone who saw the kittens in the parking lot liked Zoe best and numerous people wished they were able to give her a home. I watched one person try to catch her barehanded only to end up with a bad scratch and no kitten. This led us to suspect she might be a troublemaker. She later wandered into the humane trap and after exploring it for some time, finally set it off and was on her way to my home. There are some related stories about her "troublemaker" status that I won't share here. She has been rather feisty about being medicated and has occasionally been forced to put up with the "burrito treatment" to prevent her from getting away from us. Recently she has taken to sleeping in Dave's lap while being handled. She is the undisputed ruler of the litter box and prefers to sit there unmolested while the other kittens rumble. I suspect she's well on her way to becoming a lap cat. Zoe is also the most photogenic of the kittens.
