for now: eat
indoors and outdoors
Foxie showed up among my strays in April 2007. She was very malnourished and timid. She would scurry through the bushes and eat a whole can of cat food really fast and vanish again. Sometimes I could pet her while she was eating.
On May 1st, she unexpectedly came when I served my rescues breakfast. I fed her while on hold with my vet if I could bring her in. They said yes, and I just grabbed her and put her in the carrier. She did not even scratch. But she was a little anxious and complained a bit during the drive. At the vet, I took her out of the carrier. For a few seconds she seemed timid and feral, then all of a sudden, she relaxed into my arms and started purring. It was one of the most touching things I have ever experienced - like she remembered love from long time ago.
Later that day, the vet called me and told me: She had fleas, earmites and LICE. Bad teeth and ulcers in her mouth. And, worst of all, socalled pyometra, her uterus was full of pus, and she would have died within a couple of weeks. They tested her for FIV/FIP and -thanks for the combined purrs of our Catster friends !!! - she tested negative. She had her teeth cleaned, too, her ulcers cauterized, and a flea and lice bath and ear cleaning, plus wormer. Set mom back for over 400.00 ouch.
then we built an enclosure for her so as long as she needs meds. she won't be introduced to my office kitty until she's well.
This poor poor kitty has had such a hard life, probably pregnant non-stop, and malnourished. Now, she will have love for the rest of her life. Minouche and Foxie have started to play and she is filling out a bit. She still needs daily reiki treatments to deal with her anxiety issues and ease the memory of past suffering. 10?07: Foxie has shown signs of arthritis. She sometimes walks very stiffly and sometimes rips out small pieces of fur. I think it's just her hard life catching up with her. I have installed 2 heating pads for her and also put her on beef flavored Glucosamine/Chondroitin. It seems to help, she has been happier again, and moves much better, even is frisky at times. I don't want to take her to the vet as it really traumatizes her. and she IS getting better. 12/31/07: Foxie's arthritis has gotten really bad, she has not been eating for 2 days and seems to be clearly suffering. Took her to the vet ( it was a major ordeal to catch her without blood loss ) and the vet gave her a depot cortisone shot shot. If it does not work, Foxie will be helped to come to the rainbow bridge next week.
update 1/3/08: The shot WORKED! Foxie is eating again and moves around - not a spring chicken, but clearly with a lot less pain. I am happy!
10/09 Foxie is still doing very well, she had to have most of her teeth except the canines removed last winter, but she's my good girl and hasn't needed much prednisone since. Still quite moddy sometimes, LOL.
The music on her page has been composed by her Dad and is called "Sail away Foxie".
4/15/2013: This morning, we found Foxie in her little warm bed, she had died in her sleep. She had shown no sign of disease the last days, just a bit over-sensitivity in her back area, she had been eating well. Her last checkup was just 2 weeks ago, and showed nothing to be concerned about. I am sad and I will miss her a lot. But she had a wonderful life with us, she was our princess and treated as such. Fly free my girl.
I remember love

Mom finally managed to doctor the link code, so I have new music on my page. The song is called "Sail away, Foxie" and my Dad wrote and played it for me, during my first winter when mom feared I wouldn't make it...
But here I am, and the music is wonderful
hugs to all my friends!!!

Folks, I can tell you: having all of your teeth xcept my canines pulled, was no walk in the park. I'm still on pain meds, but way better.
Mom checks on me often, and I rest a lot. But I have been eating a little, and maybe I can train mom to feed me nothing but top notch food from now on, MOL.
She also gave me fluids yesterday and today, they help, too, with my speedy recovery.
Tomorrow I will go back to the office with mom. I hear Minouche was concerned re. my whereabouts, and had asked for me.
I have been quite good with the medicine, and have scratched mom only once, and it is just a small scratch, and hardly bled, but I couldn't help myself....
