Arrival Story:
It somehow seemed a good idea to have a second cat to keep Angus company. Smokey had been condemned to the shelter due to the first owners discovering they were allergic to him (he has a very dense/wooly under coat)...hummm...might have been a clue! Took him home and life has never been the same. Smokey is very dog-like in behavior but not necessarily the good things dogs do. He sheds more, stinks more and is overall more of everything. We love him dearly - life with Smokey is never ever boring!

FINAL UPDATE: 10/25/2006 Smokey lost his battle with CRF on Saturday October 14. He stopped eating completely and refused to be enticed to eat regardless of the parade of tasty morsels offered. We all miss him every day, especially Angus. R.I.P. Smokey. UPDATE: 8/31/2006 Smokey has been diagnosed with Chronic Renal Failure (CRF) and it has been quite a difficult time as we adjust to caring for him during this illness. We had no idea how common CRF is and we are doing all that we can to help maintain a good quality of life for him as long as he still enjoys his life. Smokey likes to sit in front of the mirror and use both front paws to whack at his own reflection for extended periods of time. He also spends each morning sitting in front of the screen door chittering at the birds which feed in the yard thinking"...if I could just get out, I'd eat them all!" A few years ago he swallowed a needle and underwent major surgery to remove it. The humans are much more cautious about leaving such hazards about now.
