Arrival Story:
I adopted Lucy from the shelter where I volunteer. She had been in foster care for three weeks after her amputation and the shelter supervisor who had been fostering her had been trying to get me to adopt her. My husband was against getting another cat, but after a couple weeks of listening to me whine and nag, he finally agreed. He is now totally in love with her sweet personality.

Bio:
Lucy was brought to the shelter as a tiny kitten with a badly injured left rear leg which was infected and infested with maggots. The vet cleaned and splinted the leg, but after four days, the leg was necrotic and had to be amputated. She went to a foster for several weeks, and then I adopted her. She is a healthy and active kitty; she does everything other four-legged cats do. If she is moving quickly, most people don't even notice the missing leg; the only time her limp is noticable is when she is walking slowly (which doesn't happen very often). She runs, climbs, and plays normally and is very sweet-tempered. She is a very special cat, and I can't imagine life without her.

Uh-oh! Mom's Stressin' and I'm Messin'

May 3rd 2007 10:41 am   [link to this entry]

I'm kind of keeping a low profile right now, 'cause Mom just finished yelling at me. She's kind of stressed right now; we're getting company soon from England, and she's trying to get the house in order. Not that it's that bad or anything, just the usual clutter from someone who works full-time and has 4 animals in the house. Dad's not much help- he always says, "You wanted all these animals, you clean up after them".
Anyway, these English relatives have never had any pets, I don't know if they even like animals. But Mom says, "These dogs and cats live here, if they don't like it, they can stay in a hotel". (Why do you think they call it FUR-niture)?
She had just straightened up one of the bathrooms, and forgot to close the door after herself. And I just couldn't help myself--it was like winning the lottery! Three of my favorite toys all in one place; toilet paper, cotton balls, and Q-tips. I was in kitty heaven.
So Mom comes back in about 20 minutes (when she heard the crash)! By then I had shredded the whole roll of toilet paper, and knocked the container of cotton balls and Q-tips off the sink and onto the floor. I had already mangled about a dozen of those puffy cotton balls and was in process of destroying my third Q-tip when she caught me. She came in and waved her arms around and called me some not-so-nice names as she chased me out of the bathroom and started to clean up the mess.
That's why I think I'll just stay out of sight for awhile (unless she forgets to shut the door again).

My Name is Lucy

April 10th 2007 9:59 pm   [link to this entry]

My name is Lucy. I was adopted last summer from the shelter where my Mom is a volunteer. One day when she was working there, a good Samaritan brought me in with my left hind leg almost torn off; it was hot and rainy and I was drenched and my leg was covered with maggots. They tried to save my leg, but after a few days it was getting worse and they had to amputate it. After a month, I was ready to go home, and my Mom adopted me. I get around just fine on 3 legs; I run and play and climb just like any other cat. I love to play with my cat-brother Bailey and my dog-sisters Sadie and Gracie. I just love to chase their tails and pounce on them. I am a real cuddler, I love to curl up on the couch or in bed with my human Mom and Dad. Bailey and I will be going to Bike Week in Sturgis,SD this August. How many other kitties can say that?
