this is just a 'maybe' problem but i thought it would help to alert some of you also.
this morning mom went to bigoo.ws/ where we get stuff for our pages sometimes. well all of a sudden this ALERT thing comes on and says our computer has all kind of virus' and do we want to fix them? of course mom just about had a heart attack. Then it dawned on her something about going to Bigoo had started this.
so she shut down the computer right away and went to her McAfee center and did a detailed scan. it showed nothing. then she did a spybot for spyware and it had a couple which it removed.
so what we think is that the Bigoo site is trying to get you to download their spyware/adware scanner. if you happen to go there and see this VIRUS ALERT don't believe it, we think it is just a scam to scare the whiskers off your face.
well the sun FINALLY came out so i think i'll go take a sunnap. headbonks Tony
That's usually a 3rd party ad and good thing you didn't click on it!
mom doesn't know about those Hazel Lucy, what do they do?
Thanks For That Tony, Much Appreciated. Purrrs x
They are usually bad places and may contain viruses. Trust your own
virus scan, never click on those other things. They want your money and more!
Cutie Tony, that happened to us right after we had our computer fixed & it scared mom! She was re-downloading the color-picker thingy ( that helps with making webpages) when it happened. She did the same thing, freaked out & shut off the 'puter! Mol!
~hugs & luv~
Thanks for the warning ! It's a good thing we all look out for each other !
That sounds so scary- just a ploy to get you to download junk! Way to go Tony and Mom!
A recent Panda Newsletter warned us about these and since then we've seen more & more friends being bothered by these "Roguewares"
The Rogueware site is designed to display a fake Antivirus scan designed scare victims into thinking that their computer is infected. If the Malware is downloaded and installed as the site suggests, the user will see a fake Antivirus program pop up on their computer. At that point it becomes very aggressive and difficult to remove.
Can you tell us more about the Panda Newsletter? it sounds like something i'd like to have. (Mom has enough grey hair as it is without Rogueware) thanks Nuk, that really helps a lot~we had no idea.
Sweet Lovely Nakita, we have color picker too. do you think we should delete it? it is scary stuff.
The color picker thingy that we had originally downloaded - the same one as you I believe - is o.k. Mom did an on line search after our computer was repaired to try and find where she got that one from. She actually was trying to downlaod the wrong one when the flashing ALERT popped up. So I wouldn't worry about the one you have. By the way, could you please tell me the name of the one you have? Mom has yet to find it again and misses it lots! *giggles*
~hugs & luv & glad that your computer is now ok~
I'm glad to read this, even if it's from a few days ago, but the SAME thing has been happening, and our computer freezes up now when we're checking mail...We hurried and shut ours off too when the Virus Threat popped up!
