Arrival Story: Jack was part of a litter we fostered for the ASPCA. His mom and his 3 sisters went back to the shelter to be spayed and he and his brother Brian stayed with us because they both had "failure to thrive". They had terrible diarrhea and couldn't gain weight. We fed them a combination of Fancy Feast chicken varieties and chicken baby food, which was all we could get them to eat. Unfortunately, although Brian lived for 3 months, he never grew beyond 13.2 ounces. He had the heart and spirit of a lion but his tiny body could no longer contain his magnificent spirit, and on Dec 2, 2006, we found him passed away in his bed. We loved him so much. Jack has stayed with us for 7 months now and is finally gaining weight. We love him so much that we have adopted him, even though he likes to wake us up in the middle of the night to be petted. What's so bad about being sleep-deprived? ;-)

Bio: Jack was born prematurely and his inability to gain weight and keep it on puts him at lifelong health risks. He has developed bacterial gingivitis and is on antibiotics for 30 days. After that he will need to be reevaluated to see if he will require dental work to keep the gingivitis from spreading infection to his internal organs. Jack is also a very picky eater and will only eat Fancy Feast Grilled Chicken Feast, which we have to puree in a food processor with chicken baby food because chewing hurts his mouth. We add the chicken baby food because he loves it and so that he will not just maintain his weight but hopefully gain more muscle mass. Please keep Jack in your prayers that he will overcome his rough start in life and continue to eat and gain weight.
