Arrival Story:
I got her as a seven-week old kitten from friends of neighbours. She was an only kitten. When I went to see her I bent down and asked the little bundle of ginger and white fluff whether she wanted to come and live with me and be mine. She gave me a quizzical look as if to say, "I think you MIGHT be an OK sort of human!" When I picked her up to give her a cuddle she wriggled quite a lot - she has never got to like being picked up - but then fell asleep in my arms.

Bio:
For the first few years of her life Solo had my mother, who was disabled following a stroke, as her companion during the day. My mother claimed not to be a cat person, but was evidently fascinated by Solo's athleticism and fastidious habits. "She does everything but talk!" was one of her comments. As an adolescent kitten Solo was obviously aware of my mother's disability; I observed her on one occasion pawing worriedly at my mother's hemiplegic arm. In June 1998 my mother suddenly fell ill; she contracted a series of chest infections and was having difficulty swallowing. During the day while I was out at work, Solo kept a constant vigil at her bedside; she wouldn't get off the bed until I came home. My mother was subsequently admitted to hospital and found to have terminal oesophageal cancer. I think Solo must have somehow known how ill she was, well before anyone else did. (She hasn't ever stayed with me when I've had 'flu!) For more information about Solo, see www.ebenezer1954.me.uk/cats.htm.
