Arrival Story:
Robbie is one of Naomi's kittens and her sisters are Marnie and Casey. Robbie carries her tail in a ring over her back like Marnie does. She was the sickest of the kittens when I got them to the vet and they are all doing well now with proper care and attention. Robbie loves to be held and is very proficient in destroying tiolet paper rolls. She and Marnie will look alot like like Naomi when they grow up. She is a real love bug.

Bio:
Robbie is on the right of her step-sister Rachel in the photo and on the right with her step-brother Rocky in disaster scene in the bathroom. They also ruined my shower curtain as you can see in one of the photos. On March 3, 2008 Robbie was diagnosed with renal failure and has been hospitalized twice. Then she developed lesions on her back and side and had to have 2 large sections of skin removed. The vet sent a biopsy to Cornell for analysis and she was diagnosed with a very rare disorder - Calcinosis circumscripta with inflammation in the subdermal tissues (the lesions). In plain words her body is depositing minerals in her soft tissues and is what most likely caused the renal failure. There is no known cause, no known treatment and no known recovery. From the little bit I have been able to find, canned food is best with low to moderate protein and low phosphate. She was the sickest of the kittens when I rescued them and she has mostly been smaller and quieter than her brothers and nephews and stopped growing when she was around 7-8 months old. Since I have had her on this diet, Robbie has gained weight and has gone from 6 lbs 5 oz to 9 lbs 4 oz which is the most she has ever weighed. Although there is no cure for Calsanosis circumscripta, I prayed she has a long life. She deserves it, because she is such a sweet girl. She has one kidney that is smaller and lumpy and she spent 1 week at the vet hospital receiving intravenous fluids due to dehydration. I brought her home on Friday so she could spend some time with her sisters and nephews and of course, me. After she got home she started eating again so I will not take her back for Rainbow Bridge until she stops eating again. I couldn't stand it for her to suffer, but as long as she is able to enjoy life she will be home. This is a heart breaker because she is so young. The most unusual thing she does is to wrap her tail around and around my arm or someone else's arm when she is petted or picked up. All I can think of just like an oppossum would do around a branch. I have never seen a cat with such a flexible tail and the people at the vet's office also said the same thing. She is a real sweetheart.

Lives Remaining:
7 of 9

Forums Motto:
I love to be loved!

Favorite Thing:
Robbie is fed canned food 4 times a day and she knows she is special. When she is ready for another meal, she will get right in front of me and just stare at me. She is my reminder that she needs to be fed!
