Arrival Story:
I am a college student and live in a one-bedroom apartment that is part of a really old, really big house. These cats are part of a feral colony living under the house! There are at least 11 of them; I have only been able to get pictures of four though. Three have let me touch them (Simba, Flor, and Cassandra), although it has been quite warily. While they were eating, I scratched their heads as long as they would allow me to, which was not long. That is after months upon months of feeding them. They are absolutely feral cats.

For now, I am just feeding these beauties and making sure they have clean water to drink. I'd like to TNR them, but I just don't have any extra money for that. But I do feel good about feeding them; they have gained weight and are becoming a little tolerant of my presence. Even though these kitties aren't mine, I love them and feel that they are part of my family. A week before finals, I did something really stupid: I picked up Flor, one of the ferals. He bit and scratched me pretty badly. My hand became infected within hours where the worst bite wounds were, and I spent much of the next day at the health center on campus and at the hospital. I ended up having to get 10 shots in a little under a month, 7 of which were very expensive Rabies shots. I don't blame the incident on Flor; it was completely my fault. I do not recommend attempting to pick up a feral cat with one's bare hands, no matter how cute and cuddly the cat or kitten looks.
