Arrival Story: I was thrown out of a car when I was 3 months old and taken to the animal shelter by a kind witness. I also lost part of my tail in an unknown incident. I waited at the shelter for a month before "Mom" came looking for a kitten - I did everything I could to get her attention, it worked (actually it wasn't too difficult). After I came home I had to be treated for ear mites and have surgery on my tail because it didn't heal right.

Mr. Fez and I went to the vet yesterday for our annual exams and vaccines. Mom agreed to a senior panel on me as I'm 13. My vet called with the results this morning... unfortunately the labs show my kidneys are not functioning quite as well as they should. I'm in the early stages of feline kidney disease. Right now I'm feeling fine and my lab values were only slightly elevated. We only did the labs because of my age. My vet did recommend to start feeding me Hills Prescription Diet feline k/d to hopefully slow the progression of the disease. Mom got one can today to see if I'll eat it. My vet said this is extremely common as cats get older and that about 1/3 of cats will develop kidney disease in their lifetime. Mom's bummed about the news, but I'm okay for now and hopefully will be for a while...
Well, Mom took me to the Emergency Veterinary Clinic last night. She noticed my right eye was a little droopy, the pupil was very narrow and constricted, and my third eyelid was showing in my right eye too. My left eye looked normal. Mom was very worried this could be something serious, so she took me in to the ER.
Well, after an exam, the emergency vet couldn't find any reason for what was going on with my eyes. He said sometimes these things are idiopathic (no known cause). He was however, concerned with how my lungs sounded (I have a history of asthma). So Mom let them take an x-ray. It did look like I have some respiratory infection starting so he sent me home on some oral antibiotics and also an eye antibiotic ointment for my eyes. He didn't see any sign of infection in my eyes, that's just a precaution.
Mom spoke with my regular vet this morning and she feels I have something called Horner's Syndrome, with an idiopathic (no known) cause. Here's a link for more information and a picture. Horner's Syndrome Mom will try to post a picture of me on my page too later.
My regular vet said most idiopathic cases of Horner's Syndrome will resolve on their own, but it can take weeks. She said to continue with the antibiotics and follow up next week. I also seem to be prone to respiratory issues, so my Mom and my vet are trying to work on that too...
Well today's my birthday... or at least the best guess for my birthday from the vet as we don't know my exact birthday. I was 4 months old when Mom adopted me from the shelter. Now I'm a teenager, 13 years old today. Mom says she can't wait to see what trouble I cause now that I'm a teenager! Thank you to Pawstuctaway Serengeti and Dennisport (Always Loved) for the four-leaf clover for my birthday and thank you to Mercy for the party hat!
