There are SIX left! Hooray!

June 13th 2007 6:40 pm

Mom says there are actually six of the feral kitties left at the park! This is still about half their number, but better than when we thought there was just one.

Mom e-mailed the mayor and got what she called a (bad-word) response.
Apparently the mayor expects the ladies who feed the kitties to "place them in homes." This made mom to say more bad words. Mom sent the link for
Alley Cat Allies to the mayor so he could educate himself on feral v. stray. Clearly he didn't. He also said there had been complaints about the cats, specifically individuals who "feared for their children" because the "cats associate with the raccoons" and the "raccoons are carriers of rabies." Now, as I said before, these cats stay to themselves, in an area away from the playground, picnic shelters, etc. They don't like humans and don't want to be around them. This nonsense about women fearing for their children brings to mind a portion of a certain Monty Python movie involving rabbits!!!
How about parents teaching children to respect wildlife and common sense things like never approach an animal you do not know??? I wonder if the mayor would take the same action if someone complained that they feared for the safety of their children because of the ducks/geese/woodchucks/raccoons/oppossom//rabbits/hawks/or blue herons? Highly unlikey don't you think? Why? Because the park is "home" to those creatures. THAT is what the mayor and his staff are missing with these kitties. The park is "home" to them too, and they have about as good a chance to be "placed in a home" as any of the other above names creatures.

So mom's snortin' fire out of her nose again, and gearing up for a response. Oh lawwdy, stay tuned!

Luv,
Tina
