Sad news

June 8th 2007 9:32 am

Mommy was pretty worked up yesterday. I heard her talking to that thing she holds up to her ear sometimes. Seems that the local parks department has a brand new manager. It also seems that his current agenda is to trap all the feral cats that live in the park down the street and take them to the pound to be put to sleep. Mom was really mad because she says this group has been in the park for fifteen years, she doesn't understand why all of the sudden they are public enemy #1.

There are 2 kind hearted ladies who feed them, one of which mom is friends with. Mom's friend has been feeding the kitties everyday for five years, and, is working diligently on TNR with this colony. This week she noticed missing kitties and susequently found out where they were going.

These kitties don't bother anyone, because they don't WANT to be around people. They don't get into garbage cans, because they are fed regularly. They stay in one tiny area of the park, so it's not like they are wandering around everywhere. Mom says this is a big park, situated on the Cuyahoga River. There is all kinds of wildlife there including ducks and geese. Mom said that the ducks and geese are a far bigger problem, as they are everywhere, and thus "poo" everywhere. Mom says she cringes when she sees little kids rolling around in the grass because it is full of goose-n-duck poo! But the kitties, no such problem. Nonetheless, they have been targeted for "extermination" after 15 years of peaceful existence. I know mom is making some phone calls to try to make others aware of this injustice, but she is not particularly optimistic that anyone will really give a hoot. At this point, we are all happy that mom made the spur of the moment decision to bring Paige home from the park when she did.

Sad Purrs,
