My Name

One of my newest Catster Friends asked my family a very good question. How did we get our names? Well, most of us have a story, so we all decided to write diary entries about it.
My name comes from a TV comercial for cat food where a guy answered his phone and said "Baxter, it's Baxter" and then the smart cat who called him said "meow meow meow meow meow meow.... " on and on and on he just kept talking like I do so my people said my name was Baxter and I thought that was just fine and so I kept it and it was great and.....

[Cut short by Baxter's typist who thinks that pretty much gets the point across]

This is Baxter's typist speaking. He's been missing for a while now. It's been too long just to be one of his little jaunts. So if any of you Catsters see a light orange and white cat, with one cloudy eye, and a loud mouth in or around Central City, NE please let me know via pmail!!! We hope he's just lost, but are worried that a fox may be in the neighborhood again...

Hrmmmph. Hate wintah. It's cold. Freezes th' watah in our little bowl. I can usually poke a hole through th' thin ice if I want a drin' of watah at night. Th' othah night, howevah, was so cold th' whole bowl of watah' froze solid. I licked it. My tounge stuck. My person saw me. Laughed. Hrmmph. But now he give' us watah even more often. It doesn't freeze solid now. My tounge hurts.

PS If I heah any "cat got y' tounge" jokes, gonna bite. Hrmmph.

[Baxter's Typist: .... nothing! He was refreshingly brief!]

So my girl came home frome the college place to visit a friend and she stopped to see us cats and then she noticed how my eye looks all funny and cloudy and how the pupil doesnt' get bigger or smaller and she got worried and asked her parents if I was blind in one eye and they told her yes and they think I got my eye clawed in a fight and I did boy you should have seene me I kicked some furr and I won and now I have a cool battle scar it doesn't bother me at all at least I didn't lose my voice in the battle, cuz then how would I talk and talk and meow and purr much better to lose an eye than ones most important communication tool don't you think anyway my girl thought all you Catsters would be interested I'm sure you are and-

[Baxter's Typist: Again, I've gotta cut him off. Baxter is capable of the longest continuous sentences in history. You can't shut the kid up!]

Wow, it's kinda cold out! Really cold out. You know I don't remember when it was last this cold! But my fur gets all nice and thick this time of year. I think fur looks better thick, don't you? It is a lot more work to groom, but that's the curse of us cats isn't it? The cold might not be so bad if it wasn't for the snow. That gets all in the fur and icy and that's just no fun. My tongue gets all cold when I clean it off. Do you ever have that problem? I -

(Another comment from the tired typist: You get his point don't you? It's cold. He'll be meowing for another hour or so about it, but I think the gist is pretty clear already, so I'll stop transcribing. Sheesh, this cat needs a mute button.)

Oh, my! I can have a diary? Hey does this mean I can talk even more, and to even MORE cats? Oh this is great! I've always hated being lonely, I like having someone to talk to ... and now I have loads of friends! When I was little, there was no one to talk to, and now, not only do I get to talk to my people who take care of me, but I can chat with the other cats that live here (they're all very nice but sometimes I get that feeling that they aren't really listening. You know what I mean? I can't imagine why! I have so many interesting things to talk about. I could just talk and talk forever! Oh well. Their loss) and now, on top of everything, I have CATSTER friends!!! Who knew there were so many kitties worldwide that are perfectly willing to have a convorsation with me! Now I can go on and on and-

(Note from Baxter's loving person/frustrated typist: seriously, this cat can meow with the best of them. My fingers will fly off if I try to keep up with transcribing his yammering much longer. He'll write again soon I promise, just as soon as my poor fingers recover from over-work. Never fear, there's no chance he'll run out of things to say.)

Love and loud purrs,
Baxter
