divider-catclaw1 Persian Cat Color Varieties

While every breed society might not accept them, you may see Persian cats referred to as belonging to a certain variety. It’s worth knowing what these are, especially if you’re looking for a kitten and are wondering what the differences might be!

98. Doll Face Persian Cat

Image Credit: CKYN stock photo, Shutterstock

This is the Old Fashioned or Traditional Persian. Breeders of this variety believe them to be the closest variant to the original Persian cats of old. Doll Face Persians do not have the shortened muzzle of some other varieties. Their noses are a standard length, meaning they can suffer from fewer complications involving their breathing and eyes.

99. Peke-Face Persian Cat

Peke Face

The Peke-Face Persian is the “show” variant many of us now recognize as a Persian. Their name is inspired by the similarities in their facial features to the Pekingese dog. A genetic mutation causes the flat, or brachycephalic, face shape of this Persian variant, and while it gives them a look favored by breeders, the shortened muzzle can cause extreme difficulties for the cats. They can also have eye problems, including drainage issues and staining.

These aren’t technically considered the same breed as the Persian by many breed societies, but they are the short-haired version. Unfortunately, they also share many of the same health problems as the Peke-face Persian, including breathing difficulties and eye problems.

101. Teacup Persian Cat

You may see Teacup Persians being advertised and think there’s nothing cuter, but they can have serious health issues. Trying to selectively breed a cat with existing health conditions like the Persian into a smaller version of itself can just exacerbate these issues. For example, teacup Persians can have significant issues with their breathing.

Like many other small breeds, they can also have problems controlling their body temperature and are sensitive to stressful situations. This isn’t a variant that is particularly recommended due to their health problems.
