I am Snowflake, Queen of the Quilt, Defender of the Realm. I am a benevolent ruler but have recently proven myself as a military queen. Mommy and Daddy brought two new kitties into my realm last spring. Before this tragic incident my mere presence was enough to keep the household in order, now I have become more militant.
In the past, I never growled and rarely hissed. I merely strutted my regal self by the window and the outdoor kitty from across the street would stop hissing at my sister Caly, running away from us in fear. A look from my noble countenance would cause Caly to back away from Mommy's lap as I have claimed that as my territory (I've peed on her twice, after all). Occasionally, Caly and I would hiss at each other, but what siblings don't. However, Caly makes a good sister, and I make a good queen.
Now a good queen shares her throne with no one, especially other kitties. Since Mommy and Daddy brought home Kepler and Maynrys in the spring, I have had to become less benevolent. I walk around more often in my elongated, aggressive strut. Regularly, I hiss and growl at Kepler as he nears me in length, though not girth - he does not have glorious fat pads like me that bounce in rhythmic beauty as I swagger across a room. Moreover, I must give Maynrys cursory bats on the head as I stand in what Mommy calls my fighting-lion-stance. I must continue to establish my dominance in order that the others know that a coup will never be successful against me.
Beware other kitties, I am benevolent but I am still an absolute monarch. I rule the house, I rule the quilt, and I rule that spot on Mommy's abdomen I like to sleep on at night. Show me fealty, show me deference, and never try to lick my ears - that is for Caly alone.
Snowflake R.
