Sassy was a genius. He could sit, stay, speak, and come on command. He followed me everywhere and was more loyal than any dog I ever knew.

Arrival Story:
I found Sassy when I was 7 years old. He was my first pet. I wanted a cat so one night I prayed that I would get one. The next morning he was waiting at the front door for me, very hungry. He wasn't in bad shape when I found him, he just showed up and he became my best friend. He was the smartest cat I've ever seen. He learned many tricks and he learned them quickly. I've never seen a cat that actually WANTED the attention he did, and the fact that he didn't have the "I'm not doing that!" attitude of a normal cat helped him to learn random tricks. We loved to show off his special skills to people. This boy was in no way shape or form "bad luck" !

Bio:
When I first found him my Dad told me he was a girl. So, I named him after the cat from Homeward Bound cause it was my favorite movie when I was little. The name stuck so I decided just to keep his name the same after a few weeks when we discovered my Dad was wrong. He was always very healthy, and he was estimated by his vet to be (at least) 15 years old in 2004. He became very ill in April of that year for no apparent reason. I prayed that God let him live a little while longer- I wasn't ready for him to leave yet. He lived for exactly one more year, and I am so glad that he did. From his intelligence, to the way he acted, and the fact that I found him after praying that I'd find a cat like him there is no doubt in my mind he was a gift from above. He was doing very well for his age but the last few days before his death he acted very distant and did not want my attention. He would just sit and watch me go through my routines. Looking back I think he was trying to see if I'd be okay without him, and when he left the property I instinctevely knew he was leaving for the bridge. We had a very close bond. He died on April 3, 2005. He died where he knew I would find him. He is very missed and I think about him all the time. Him, Patches and I grew up together! I'm glad that he let Ziggy live with us the last two years of his life, I think he knew that he would leave soon and he wanted me to have another companion. Although he would smack his "brother" if he did something he knew Ziggy wasn't allowed to do, he taught him many things and didn't leave until he knew Ziggy would be able to "take care of mom." He has a star named after him in the Ursa Major constellation.
