The Life and Times of Portia Burrito

I've been bad.

I got into Mommy's yarn stash last night while I was playing and keeping Mommy and Daddy awake. They discovered my tangled mess of yarn when they woke up today. Mommy was MAD. I lost my bedroom privileges all day long. I had to stay in the living room and be on my best behavior before Mommy let me back in their bedroom.
How was I supposed to know that I wasn't allowed to play in the yarn? Honestly, Mom, throw me a bone. Or should it be "throw me some nip"?

Dropped off the snuggles!

Mommy and Daddy drove over to a nearby cat shelter to drop off Mommy's tall stack of snuggles. She made 14 to donate, 16 in all. One went to my aunt's kitty to help her transition to a new apartment, and I claimed one for my throne in the kitchen. It's round, so I curl up into a ball so I fit perfectly inside it. I'm adorable.

The humans at the shelter were very, very grateful to receive so many snuggles! They were happy that Mommy made them to go home with kitties when they're adopted. Mommy really liked seeing all her hard work go to such a deserving place.

Mommy loooooooooved the cat shelter. Most of the kitties in the visiting room roam free, sleeping in cat beds, cat houses, or on top of the cages. Some kitties prefer to stay in the cages for a greater sense of security. It's a no-kill shelter dedicated to providing a safe haven for cats without a chance for adoption. Some of the cats have been there for TEN YEARS! It's amazing how devoted the volunteers of the shelter are. If anyone is interested in adopting from or donating to the shelter, swing by catwelfareohio.com.

Hey kitties! Wanna snuggle?

I recently joined the Catster group The Snuggles Group and I wanted to tell everyone about it. Snuggles are kitty-sized blankets for shelter cats that are crocheted, knitted, or sewed. When my Mommy got me from the Humane Society, I came home with my own snuggle. It was familiar, and a great comfort when I was scared about my new home. Mommy put it next to my food and it's the only thing that got me to eat for the first few days. Mommy was so grateful that someone took the time to make me something that helped ease the transition from shelter to furrever home.
Now Mommy is making lots of snuggles for other shelter kitties as a way of paying the favor forward. She found an awesome local shelter that's for kitties only and doesn't euthanize unless it's absolutely necessary. Those kitties need snuggles!
I bet you know a local shelter that come use snuggles too. If your pawrents know how to crochet, knit, or sew they should get involved in the Snuggles Group. If they don't know how to do any crafts, but want to learn, this is a great way for beginners to try out easy patterns with beginner stitches. Stop by the Snuggles Group and see what you can do for shelter kitties!

New toy!

I got a new toy in the mail today. Daddy ordered a catnip mouse from KittyHooch.com and it arrived a few minutes ago. It's green with plaid ears, and it's got my name embroidered on the side so I know it's mine. At first I just rubbed against it and marked it mine so that the fat one Gracie wouldn't steal it. Then Daddy hooked it up to the kitty fishing pole and I batted it around for awhile. It was a lot of fun.

The fat one Gracie got into the packaging my toy came in and drooled all over the papers while she was looking for a contact buzz. She made Mommy angry. Stupid fat one.

This is the BEST kitty toy I've ever come across. I've never been affected by catnip before, but this stuff is great! If any of you cats want to try it, swing by KittyHooch.com. It's super fresh and even comes with a money-back guarantee if you don't like it. It's purrfect!

The vet AGAIN?!?

Mommy and Daddy took me to that weird-smelling vet's office AGAIN today. I needed shots done that they couldn't do last week because I was running a fever after my surgery. AND I have to go again in three weeks for a booster shot. Mommy has to bring in a sample of my poo next time. How embarrassing.

At least I got a sweet new carrier to ride in today. Mommy got a super-fashionable pink faux crocodile-skin carrier that looks like a big handbag. It's soft on the inside with lots of mesh windows for me to look out of. I didn't like going into it, but once we hit the road I was loving it. Now I can travel in style!

Getting better

I'm feeling much better today. Daddy gave me some food and water while I was curled up on my rocking chair. I had a little food and some water and Mommy and Daddy were very relieved. I didn't eat or drink at all yesterday after coming home from the vet, and they were worried about me. Mommy put a little bowl of water and a bowl of food next to my rocking chair on the footstool. I had some water later and Mommy was really happy.
I'm much more alert and affectionate today too. I'm not completely 100 percent yet, but I'm getting better. That's all Mommy and Daddy care about.

Home again

Mommy and Daddy brought me home from the vet. I made Mommy panic and cry because she was so sad that I was hurting. I bathed my bald tummy and Mommy flipped out, thinking I was trying to lick the stitches out. Turns out I was just cleaning the vet smell and peroxide off of me and getting rid of the itchiness. I barely touched the incision, I swear. Still, Mommy freaked out and cried. Mommy's a weenie.
Daddy took some new pictures of me while I was curled up in my house. Mommy says she'll post them later. Mommy and Daddy were fussing over how cute I was for my pictures even though I was so groggy and irritated. I'm such a pro when it comes to posing for pictures, even though the camera flash makes me blink too much.
It's been a rough day, and I need another nap.

My trip to the vet

So today was my day to go to the vet and get spayed. I was SUCH a good girl! I went into my carrier without any problem. I'm always a great traveler, so I really loved the ride. Daddy held the carrier up to the car window and I got to see out. Boy, was that fun! When we got to the vet they all fussed over me saying how beautiful I am. Well, yeah. I'm gorgeous.
I was perfect during my exam, too. The vet said my ears were clean, my teeth were very healthy, my tummy felt good, and my heart and lungs sounded excellent. They weighed me and I'm up to 8 pounds, 12 ounces now! Mommy was worried that I was underweight, but she was just worried 'cause I'm tiny compared to the fat one Gracie. I behaved very well in the exam room. I didn't complain or try to get away. After awhile I went ahead and laid down like I'm was just relaxing at home. Mommy and Daddy fussed so much over me, and I loved it.
After Mommy and Daddy left the vets took care of me. I went to sleep for awhile and now I'm up and doing fine. I'm coming home tomorrow morning and Mommy and Daddy can fuss all over me again. Mommy is very, very relieved that everything is okay. She was more worried than I was.

Mommy and Daddy got a new digital camera today. I'll have to practice looking cute when they're not looking. Who am I kidding, I look cute at the time. But I'll have to practice my poses. I really do love getting my picture taken.
Mommy says my appointment to be spayed is on Friday. I'm nervous.

Rough time

Mommy has been very scary recently. She watches something called football and shouts a lot at the television. On Sunday she watched the Bobcats play and screamed about throwing balls. Then she told me that it was my fault that they lost because I wasn't wearing green and had no Bobcat pride. Excuse-moi, madame, I am Canadian! It's hockey or nothing, you silly American.
I thought the shouting was over after all that. I was wrong. Last night she screamed some more and laughed a very scary cackle over some "Buckeyes" losing their game. She seemed pretty happy afterward, which involved picking me up and making me quite upset. At least she didn't blame me for anything this time.
She keeps telling me something about going to the vet and getting an operation done in a few days. I'm not sure whether I should be worried or just act non-plussed as usual.
